Is it just me, or did the detail of these figures lessen with time? I remember when McFarlane/Todd toys was known more for the eye popping detail rather than the articulation. The newer Mandarin Spawn figures just don't live up to the expectation for me. I suppose I'm one of the more old school McFarlane figure collectors that appreciated the effort in details more than the figure's poseability.

If you look at the sculpt detail of a lot of the current figures, it's still really good. But the paint detail has definitely dropped a lot from how they were in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Mcfarlane is trying too hard to keep the price point low. Most of his recent releases would benefit from extra accessories and additional paint apps. Bump the price up 5 or so and add a wash and drybrushing.

@@mrevilcheese I think I'm just too old school for my own good when it comes to McFarlane figures. I never did mind the whole "they're too much like statues!". I actually kind of preferred it that way. I still have some of the older figures. My favorite amongst those would have to be The Maxx. I have the numerous variants with the Black Isz and the White Isz. Even went the distance and picked up the package of Isz with the exclusive Red Isz.

Paint definitely fades on these guys, I have two of the black gold ones with one still in the package and I thought the one that is was a repaint someone did themselves. Doesn't really bother me though, looks like the figure is getting a patina. Would love to see a bone repaint of the cream with a bone face, the shiny black always made it my least favorie variant. Also, off topic but Ornstein from Dark Souls always reminds me of Mandarin Spawn.

Yeah that shiny black face on the boney one just seems like an odd choice. Did you see how the preview pics for that one almost look like a different figure with the way the colors were supposed to look?

@@mrevilcheese not sure if I've seen those preview pics but quite a few Mcfarlane figures have design changes. Wish there was more discussing things like various changes in Spawn figures but sadly the Spawn.Com message boards have been gone since 2011, so lots of information has been lost.

You know, it's really too bad that you don't like Mandarin Spawn. I mean, to have THAT many of something you couldn't care less about, must suck. ;) Jokes aside, my Mandarin Spawn collection pales in comparison, 'cause I just have that first one and that's it. I know you told me if I get it wet, it'll multiply, but I haven't tried that yet. It was really cool to see the comparison of your first one and the unopened one you got to replace it. Plus, it's really hard to wrap your brain around the fact that that figure is 22 years old!

Gahhh! This figure is old enough to have a beer!! :( Now I gotta try to keep the new opened one from fading! Guess it needs to go in a case I dont know. The old one was never in sunlight. Maybe its just the air that does it.

I'm still waiting for them to repaint the new mandarin spawn because it's lacking paint badly... By the way the people that sculpted the original Mandarin Spawn were called The four horsemen
