Grand father: Mohmmad Ali Jinna- the founder of Pakistan- was grand son of PremjiBhai Meghjibhai Thakkar- a hindu Lohana bania or trader -of village Moti Paneli or Paneli Moti in Rajkot district, Gujarat Fishing business: Well, like a shrewd and prosperous trader; he entered fishing business much against wishes of his community of vegetarian Hindu vaishanavs. Father: Naturally, his entire family was ostracized and he was asked to repent. But, his son Poonja Bhai Thakkar did not accept humiliation of his father and decided to convert to Shia sect of Islam in order in an act of rebellion. Surname: Poonja bhai was nicknamed Jinno or skinny by his friends thus he adopted it as a new name Jinnahbhai . Mohammad Ali later adopted and customized it as a surname Jinnah Mother:Jinnah’s mother was Mithi Bai Khem ji ;whose father Lira Khim ji was also a Gujarati Hindu bania (hemani-gold smith) ;who had converted to Islam.
