Yes, to match other first tv channels on other Europe countries. Excepts: UK (on BBC Two), Greece (on ERT, despict it has blue, due to corporation logo, the main color of this channel is red, so it appears on all channels of ERT), Russia (due to main cooperators of their national tv companies - Channel One Russia and VGTRK, which, more national is second one), Denmark (used on DR2) and Germany (due to the same like Russia, but ARD and ZDF and first one, respectively).

@@smazelsp6423 The intro used between 1988-1990 seems to have been done with a Quantel Paintbox machine. I might be wrong though since I'm not sure the machine was powerful enough to calculate for transparency, which is shown when the circles overlap in the intro.

I remember from my childhood when they changed the intro in 1987. They even told in the news that they’re going to change the intro so the small globe won’t fly into the Ó of the word Híradó because it looks stupid :)

The news intro is from 1993, four years after the fall of communism, thus those pictures represent the end of that era. Cutting steel fences: Dismantlement of the Iron Curtian in 1989. Crane removing a statue: Removal of one of the communist statues that you could find almost everywhere in the country back then. I think that one in particular is a Lenin statue from Csepel, the most iconic workers' district of Budapest. (csepel.info/?p=40392)

Yes, at that time, the appearance's permanence was more important, than the innovation and the increasingly modern sounds and forms. Rather, they developed internally. Without the race of Capitalism and all other commercial TV, there was simply no demand for this on the only Hungarian channel. The news programme had a system of symbols and an iconic sound signal that could not be confused with anything.
