History of NSW Public Transport (State Rail/Urban Transit, 1988)

Interesting audio-visual chronicle of the history of NSW Railways (& transport) since 1855. Narrated (post-humously) by 'William Sixsmith' who drove locomotive number 1 (now preserved by MAAS in Sydney). Video jointly produced for the State Rail Authority & Urban Transit Authority of NSW by Bruce Hamilton Pty Ltd.
From 1855 till 1988 it explores the historical transport developments from the first locomotive to the latest (then) high speed XPT train.

I recall watching this at The Royal Easter Show at Moore Park in 1988, where they had a theatrette at the NSW Government displays. Hence the comment at the end of the video to "please move to the right of the station on your way out".

Being the first government owned railway in the world was not such a wonderful thing, especially if you had the responsibility of running the railway. Government ownership came with endless political interference in the building and running of the railways.
