absolutely incredible lecture. had to pause several times throughout to think over life and connect the dots to how modern societies were formed. mind blowing. Almost as mind blowing as the idea of exploring the ancient greek texts and the new world all by accident. What a time to have been alive.... the fabric and nature of life unravelling before your very eyes... I hope to see something similar with our today's rediscovery of global texts through the global accessibility of the internet and the of new explorations of the world in quantum science.

Great lecture, thank's a lot! I have a certain difficulty to translate that into today's time. Where are we when we put those humanist terms on our time?

The painting Wes is referring to is Veronrse's Wedding at Cana. It was formerly The Last Supper, and so they changed the title accommodate the monkey and the drunk soldiers.

Actually, i believe he is referring to Veronese's The Feast in the House of Levi (1573). You can even find the original transcript of the Holy Office's interrogation. It's as funny as you think. Here are some quotes: Q. In this Supper which you painted for San Giovanni e Paolo, what signifies the figure of him whose nose is bleeding? A. He is a servant who has a nose-bleed from some accident. Q. And the one who is dressed as a jester with a parrot on his wrist, why did you put him into the picture? A. He is there as an ornament, as it is usual to insert such figures. Q. Do you not understand that in representing the Last Judgment, in which it is a mistake to suppose that clothes are worn, there was no reason for painting any? But in these figures what is there that is not inspired by the Holy Spirit? There are neither buffoons, dogs, weapons, nor other absurdities. Do you think, therefore, according to this or that view, that you did well in so painting your picture, and will you try to prove that it is a good and decent thing? A. No, my most Illustrious Sirs; I do not pretend to prove it, but I had not thought that I was doing wrong; I had never taken so many things into consideration. I had been far from imaging such a great disorder, all the more as I had placed these buffoons outside the room in which Our Lord was sitting.

It’s the Feast at the House of Levi, after the name was changed. It is by Veronese.

Let's be careful here though, aren't we still putting ourselves at the center of the universe again? Egoism is difficult behavior to control...
@theshadedofinnsmouth62435 жыл бұрын
We are at the center the universe of things that are important to humans. Not, however, at the physical center, if such a thing can even be said to exist.

@@theshadedofinnsmouth6243 Since we are self aware you have to have some Ego. I guess what I'm getting at is to have a Super Ego that sets Ideals above and beyond the Ego.
