So fun fact. In FE11 I visited all extra chapters when I was a kid. You all can critique it all you want but the extra chapters helped me a lot.

Good video. I believe the way these hidden chapters or route splits should be handled is by NOT doing stuff the player wouldn't think of or being dumb like fe11, even though the spirit of unlocking them can be used because of the series core mechanic of perma death. Hint at it. Have a very important character die and it not be a game over and completely change the story. The FE7/FE6 ones of depending on your EXP distribution is brilliant. Have your characters leading up to the chapters mention something on being strong enough to charge in or not being strong enough and wanting to take an side route.

I've been following this channel for a while and got something I need to say. your videos are super in-depth and informative and show how much you care about all aspects of fe. But your voice comes off as super monotone and robotic in the videos and I think your channel could grow more if you put more emotion in when reading your scripts

Love the route split in Sacred Stones. Played through both more times than I can count and to this day I still don't know which one I truly prefer. The various routes of Three Houses are cool too though I wish the school phase wasn't always pretty much exactly the same and that the war phase didn't recycle so many maps regardless of house. For Gaiden Chapters and/or Paralogues my favorites are FE6-FE7 and Engage. I love all the little requirements within the root Chapters to get the Gaidens, and the integration they have within the overall storylines. As for Paralogues I love the Engage Paralogues because it's so nostalgic fighting the battles against the Emblems on the recreated maps. Unlocking the higher bond levels and DLC Emblems is a good reward too. Three Houses Paralogues I also enjoy a lot, but not as much as Engage. I do think it's cool that the ones you get access to are based on who you recruit in parts 1 and 2 or what house you're leading. That's a cool way to make them stand out. Overall when it comes to unlockable side battles I like pretty much everything that isn't Shadow Dragon. I like to keep all my units alive so purposely killing people off in order to access side quests just doesn't appeal to me.

4:00 What you're saying there happened to me. I got confused - in Fire Emblem you always recruit who you fight, so I fought Sonya because I wanted to recruit her but it turns out you can't recruit them during these battles.

I'd say Gaiden/Echoes is sort of an exception. Since the only enemy unit you recruit is Delthea and that's if you didn't kill her. Zeke becomes green if you have Tatiana. One of the prisoners of the archer fort says that the other won't chase after you if you fight one, so with all previous recruitments in mind i think its clear enough that you have to kill one

Yikes! Awakening and Fates has a lot of Paralogues! And I thought Shadow Dragon's Gaiden chapters perplexed me!

I think gaiden/paralogs are best when they work as side/optional content and worse when they work as pseudo-core content. What I mean by this is things like 3HS paralogs are great as most of the time they don't give anything core but are nice to have. While FE6 I dislike how you basically need to do them and that when blind basically means playing a deathless run. I understand it's for replay value sake but when you can miss main content and get a bad end, some players will feel bad about it and not want to replay the whole ass game just to get it right (especially when the game in question is FE6). Another thing of note that I assume goes unstated but a big draw for paralogs for me is training exp and WEXP. In older games having an extra chapter or two can help you bring up a lagging unit or pump more into your mains. This is a bigger deal in Awakening and Fates if you want to invest into your child units without the grind DLC as you effectively can get up to half a games worth of chapters to work on those units to bring them back up and beyond mainline units.

Part of why FE6 gaidens feel so bad is i think because all the gaiden chapters are all pretty much the worst chapters in the game. At best you have like 12x which actually has some aspect of urgency, most of them are just huge chores to play without warp and dont have any incentive to play fast, and at worst you have 20xB which is just straight up one of the worst maps in the whole series. They definitely used the gaidens to experiment with more unique gameplay and unfortunately they dont end up really adding anything of value outside of giving you some of the weapons pretty early.

I kinda hate the paralogues in the new games because they leave me unsure if I’ll be underleveled if I don’t do them or overleveled if I do them, and they break up the pacing of the story between chapters.

I am very sorry I haven't been able to make much content as of late. I moved into a new place that needed a lot of work done to it. I've also been working a lot of hours at my job. My free time has just been very limited, but hopefully about a month from now I'll have things sorted out and I can get back to making content. Don't give up on me.
