Very well done and informative Nathan. I love St. Louis because I was born and raised there. Some of these houses remind me of child-hood homes we lived in. Thank you for your wonderful exploration of St. Louis houses.

Excellent presentation. I’m a regular visitor to St. Louis and Soulard is one of my favorite neighborhoods to visit. You featured some of my favorite homes. I didn’t know about the Derby home! Video has a great look. Love the saturated colors.

Used to go to the Sealord market every Saturday afternoon to do all my vegetable shopping for the whole week. Enjoyed that so much and going through the old globe drugstore across the street. Looking for all the bargains. I’m so glad to see that it is being restored that’s wonderful. I grew up in St. Louis and lived up there for many years, but I have retired and live in Northeast Arkansas now.

Loved this. Straight forward history from an obviously very informed man. I'm from st Louis and lived in the Central West End for many years. I recognized many of the homes. Thank you.

Just a note , many historians say the flounder houses were built as half houses to pay less taxes, or to be completed at a later time. Thanks for your remarks on the various neighborhoods. I had not heard the term Derby house. Very interesting.

Thank you for a very interesting tour. I have ancestors that lived in St. Louis. I remember St. Louis in the 1960s and it was a very old city even then. My family in St. Louis had the last name Zopfie. I've been looking for St. Louis addresses for Zopfies and haven't found any. I want to see if any buildings I remember are still standing. I'll be watching more of your videos. I'm fascinated by architecture and history in general.

Nice! Does Nathan have any tips for learning this stuff as well?
@ThisHouse3 жыл бұрын
Thankfully, you'll be able to learn a lot from our channel. Other than that, checking out books at your local library, reading through the descriptions of homes listed on the Historic Register, and taking historic walking tours are all great ways to learn more!

Enjoyed your video alot. I've been really fascinated with the stories I've been uncovering of the buildings and house in the neighborhood. I live in soulard and take nightly walks looking at all the architecture. I've been trying to figure out the history of the big abandon building at 2122 s. Ann here in soulard. Do you have any info on it?

Thank you so much! We will look into the history of that building and see what we can uncover!

This was really cool. Funny how it's, just another house until you see all of the detail. The oldest house that was shown, it was a fur trappers house blew my mind. I'd love to see st Louis as open land.

The Flanders House reminded me of a style of house in Charleston SC. One room wide, two stories high with full length covered porches on each floor. The entrance door was usually onto the lower porch. I've always wondered at the name of the style, would anyone know it?

I would think those flounder houses were very good at catching Rainwater. Rainwater was collected and stored in cisterns to use for drinking water.

I think every time you say Italian you mean French. At least Wikipedia says that the Second Empire style is from France, not Italy.
