I was fortunate to work at McCall’s Boat Rentals and then work for Seacor Marine when I first started working out in the Gulf of Mexico back in the late 1990’s. I personally knew Mr. Norman McCall and he was quite a guy. Prior to his founding McCall’s Boat Rentals, he had been a USN sub-mariner who had been a crewman on the USS Nautilus (SSN-571) which was the first World’s first Nuclear Powered Submarine in the USN. After leaving the USN and starting McCall’s Boat Rentals, Mr. McCall even got permission from the USN to use their old squadron logo for his companies logo. His logo was a catfish wearing a USN Dixie Cup hat that was smoking a cigar while sitting on top of a torpedo. I worked on many of these crew boats that are mentioned in this video before finding my calling working as a Mini-Supply Boat Captain. I remember Mr. McCall asking me to come back to work at McCall’s Boat Rentals before I was eventually laid off by Seacor Marine due to a downturn in the oil patch. Mr. Norman McCall thought highly of me as I did of him. He was an innovator in the designs and evolution of crew boats that are used in the off shore oil industry.
