The Not Things are beings from outside the universe, able to transform their shape and steal your memories. They remind me of the 'Things' from the dungeon dimensions of Terry Pratchett's discworld - entities from the nothingness that eye reality with jealously and envy, but if they ever broke into reality, would be like trying to heat the ocean with a match stick.

oh yeah i definitely think the not-things "survived" the explosion. The explosion merely stopped them from using the ship to reach places. Also river song destroyed the tardis based on conditioning from the Silents, not an "entity"
