Nu sunt sigur, dacă Adolf Sax, este din Belgia?

All that history of Adolphe Saxe might be just fine and dandy, and accurate as far as it goes, but where did Adolphe Saxe get the idea for the Saxophone? He got it from the Transylvanian Taragot (Taragoto in Hungarian), which is basically a long, straight wooden single reed instrument with a conical bore like a saxophone, which is a traditional folk instrument of Hungary and Transylvania. I enclose a link here to a KZbin video of a Taragot being played at a wedding in Romania: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6G5iaN-ect6hK8 So - Adolphe Saxe didn't singlehandedly invent the saxophone out of the blue - he got / stole the idea from the Transylvanian Taragot!

I do agree. The so called "tárogató"(single reed, woodwind instrument) must be the predecessor of saxophone.

Much like the earlier Saxophone, the Taragot has a conical tube similar to the oboe, and the single reed mouthpiece of the clarinet.

Hello, @panfluteman2000! I cannot agree with that! The tarogato seen in this video has only been used in Romania/Transylvania since the 1920s. Originally from Hungary, it was clearly built for the first time AFTER the invention of the saxophone by Adolphe Sax by an instrument maker there in the late 1890s. Then it became a "genuine" (haha) national instrument there. However, the historical Tarogato is a (hideous sounding) and very loud double reed instrument that was used as a signal instrument in combat and descends from the Turkish Zurna! ;-)

He was actualy not born in Belgium but France. Belgium was founded later. "During the wars that followed the French Revolution, Belgium was occupied and later annexed to France. But with the downfall of Napoléon, the Congress of Vienna in 1815 reunited the Low Countries under the rule of the king of Holland. In 1830, Belgium rebelled against Dutch rule and declared independence, which was approved by Europe at the London Conference of 1830-1831".
