Loved my IQ. Bought it in 2016 for 8k with 25k miles. 2020 i had around 65k on it, was tboned by a Malibu, tipped over onto drivers side, slid into oncoming & was hit by a VW. I walked away w/out even a scratch, & insurance totaled it out & gave me $7995. So essentially I only paid $5 for my IQ over four yrs. Replaced it w/a Scion iA...& its blue book now several K more than I paid for it last yr.

A few years back my local dealer let me use an IQ while my Tacoma was getting some warranty work done. I loved how it drove, reminded me of the old Volkswagens I used to drive and 'wrench' on, cars I'd driven while in Europe, and thought I would love to get one in the future as a second 'fun' weekend car. I was recently looking at them and !!HOLY CRAP!! the used ones are pricey, not dropping in value even though its been discontinued. They're even pricier than the more-recently-discontinued Yaris models. Hopefully Toyota will bring back some type of 'micro' city car in the future.

I bought a 2012 a couple weeks ago as an extra car and I love it. Has 170k and runs great. Just ordered some Megan Racing coil overs and can't wait to get them on the car. Buy them while you can as they are becoming hard to find.

I'm fascinated by subcompacts, especially Kei cars like these made by Toyota/Honda that have managed to reach American shores. I would love to get one of these as a second car, but the used market for these are so expensive as they're hard to find.

@@julianmaster Oh yes, mine is from 2010... Just look at the mileage and check if the maintenance history is complete! You will not regret it. It's a very reliable car so far!

​@@aegisreflector1239 Yes, I would say so. But it's the king of the city! This is were the IQ really shines. If I was mainly driving long trips, I would choose a car with a bigger fuel tank, that can accelerate faster and with cruise control! Still very happy with my IQ though! :)

I had an IQ. It was fun to drive, but when I saw how much it was dropping in value I was shocked. We traded it in when we bought a Sonata.

To anyone still watching in America, the same car in Europe does 65 to 70 MPG not 37 MPH ? depending on the engine model ,, makes you wonder ? Is it all rigged ? You get cheap fuel , Europe expensive fuel but the same car with reasonable MPG ,, this is not the first car I have noticed the European version does way better MPG. Maybe all cars could way better MPG , ?

There's a lot of reasons for the discrepancy and it depends on the particular video you're watching. For videos from the UK, I'm pretty sure they use a different gallon, so that has to be converted. There's also a diesel version of this car overseas, and that model gets much higher mpg, so that has to be accounted-for. The car is also less efficient at higher speeds like on a US highway, so if you use it only at euro city speeds, you'd get significantly higher mpg. There are also versions of the car with significantly smaller engines overseas, whereas only the 1.4L was offered in the US, so the power to weight ratios are different. And lastly, I think our EPA test cycle drives with a lead foot, as their 37mpg estimate is way too low for this car. I personally get 40+mpg out of my US Scion IQ without even trying, and I can get 44+mpg with hypermiling techniques. This is combined east coast city and highway driving. Even in the winter, summer's even better. So it's a complex issue. Yes, there are some laws here that make it more difficult to get say, the diesel version of this car, which would be drastically more efficient. So it is kinda rigged. But there are other factors at play here, like much higher (and more commonly used) US highway speeds in excess of 70mph, a larger engine being the only option here, different size gallons, and also the real-world mpg of the IQ in my driving experience has been much higher than that 37mpg EPA estimate, usually at least above 40mpg.

In Europe, we typically use IQs with manual transmissions, they consume half a liter or even a liter less than automatics.
