As always, love the vids. I saw an interesting graphic on reddit (r/hockey) about empty net goals from 1979-2019 tracked by period. Surprisingly, there have been 5 EN goals in the 1st, 6 in the 2nd, 7,731 in the 3rd, and 5 in OT. To go along with this, there is an official NHL rule implemented in 1999 to discourage teams from pulling their goalie in OT. The rule is that if a team pulls their goalie in OT and they get scored on, they do not receive the 1 point usually awarded for an OT loss. Might make an interesting video.

Great job once again. And as we know, the Portland Rosebuds (yes, Rosebuds) were the first American based hockey team to try for Lord Stanley's Silverware.

What do Seattle and Ottawa have in common? They lost their original iconic team that won Cups and both city had to wait a long long long time to get back a team.

Can, lets say, Maurice Richard or some other player from the 50's still perform today with the improved goalkeeping, better level of play, "softer" rules, etc.
@HybridIcing5 жыл бұрын
I don't know if taking the player from back then and putting them into today's game is fair, because if we did that I don't think they'd be the top tier players that they were before, unless we look at it from a comparative stand point and adjust them based on the quality of competition. If we did that then the Rocket would be as dominant a goal scorer as Ovi, or vice versa.

Whats the most impressive is the players from the 50s had to get *a second job* in order to survive. Thats why Lindsay and Harvey started the NHLPA. Its pretty impressive that guys like Howe Richard Harvey Lindsay Plante Sawchuk Shore Hull were able to accomplish so much despite not having the same privilege as the post expansion era players

The Rangers would go on to win three more Stanley Cups in ninety years. 😐
