It’s a device that helps you know the temperature inside or outside of your body, tells you if you food is ready or how you should dress to be comfortable. But who invented the temperature telling device that we rely on every single day? And why do some countries measure in different scales?

3:18 You are wrong about Celsius. Anders Celsius was the professor of astronomy at Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden. In 1742, he created a temperature scale based off of the Delisle temperature scale which had 150 for water freezing and 0 for water boiling to 100 for water freezing and 0 for water boiling. Both Delisle and Celsius did this to avoid negative numbers. Celsius used scientific methods to devise his temperature scale noting boiling water was dependent upon air pressure, and ice melting didn't rely much on location or elevation but temperature. In 1743, physicist Jean-Pierre Christin of Lyon, France independently invented what is known as the modern Celsius scale with water freezing at 0 and boiling at 100 and called it the "Thermometer of Lyon". In 1744, Celsius died and another professor at Uppsala University named Carl Linnaeus had the actual Celsius scale reversed for his greenhouse when he ordered new thermometers made by Daniel Ekström to what the Celsius scale also is today. Also, 0 K = -273.15 °C.
