Great video! Showing as a quick history lesson to my 4th and 5th graders as we begin our ukulele unit. This video will be a great way to give them history yet keep them engaged!

Not 100% correct. 1. The portuguese brings the Braginha/Machete, a local form of the Cavaquinho from Madeira. 2. The picture you use for the Cavaquinho, is the Cavaquinho from Brasil, not from Portugal.
@jorgesaopedrogomes3 жыл бұрын
Cavaquinho is also from Portugal, it was a derivation from Braguinha that is originally from North of Portugal, from a region which capital is Braga. Because the portuguese had connections with other territories that were portuguese u can found cavaquinhos in several countries, not only Brasil, in Cape verde also exist, and others.

@@jorgesaopedrogomes cavaquinho is not a derivation from braguinha but the other way around, and they called it braguinha in madeira cause cavaquinho came from there.

Also the jumping fleas part was actually from them watching the Portuguese from Madeira Island dancing their folklore dancing style on the beach when they arrived, which if you've ever seen, does resemble fleas "dancing". Also the Madeira Island folklore dance have similarities to the way Native Americans danced. Check out Michael Jackson's Black or White video. Fingers on the fretboard like fleas? Just a tad lame in my humble opinion. 🤙🏼

I used this video with my students when getting ready for our ukulele unit. During some research, I came across a few facts that were incorrect. The cavaquinho photo you used which was not of the Portuguese cavaquinho, but the Brazilian one. I found that the instrument (per the MET) brought to Hawai'i was the braguinha, not the cavaquinho as you said. You also stated that King Kalākaua was the last monarch of Hawai'i, which is false. His sister, Queen Lili'uokalani was the last monarch. I mean no disrespect, of course, we are all human. The purpose of my comment is really just to make you aware of the errors. I do think that it would be very helpful to revise this video in order to clear up any confusion.

King Kalakaua was the PENULTIMATE monarch. Liliʻuokalani was the last.

Liliuokalani was not legally queen.. I love how people want to talk about how hawaii was illegally overthrown.. but did king Kamehameha conquer the islands and legally create the hawaiian kingdom.. how exactly legal was that.? Lol.. the kingdom of hawaii had finances like all other kingdoms in existence.. king David Kalakaua bankrupt the kingdom.. that's why it fell.. those business men just wanted what the kingdom already promised..

The actual instrument that came to Hawai'i was the Machete de Braga or Braguinha not the Cavaguinho and you need to pronounce 'ukulele correctly instead of yukaleilei which is not a word in the Hawaiian language. So you have a few bits of information that are incorrect. Just thought you should know instead of rewriting Hawaiian History and mispronouncing the Hawaiian language you might want to do a little more research on what you are posting as an educational video. 😊

Also the image of the cavaquinho that he showed is not a portuguese cavaquinho but the Brazilian version with is way larger.
@joaodefreitas8617 Жыл бұрын
You are right the instrument that came to Hawaï is the braguinha from madeira. And braguinha is not similar to ukulele us exactly the same as a ukulele soprano except the wood that is built, for obvious reasons.
