@@bdegrds Abuse is the key word here. I really doubt any of these guys abuse steroids, there's plenty of example of people who abuse them. I still laugh at a moment in a rich piana video where he was answering emails from lifters who were using gear and the person writing the email was using more than rich himself. The fact that they are illegal outside of their prescribed usage doesn't help with the lack of information... not that in this day and age the information isn't readily available but people always think that more is more.

Brian Shaw's like a mutant though. Like, he probably has both the Hercules gene AND proportional gigantism which each are super rare. Combine that with his crazy willpower and you have the strongest man on earth. I just really hope and pray his heart never gives out on him because heart attacks are common for bigger guys like that. Even more so for athletes like strongmen.

You can see none of the guys wanted him to try again. Brian clearly told him he almost hurt himself spotting him on that lift, they werent sure Nick could get it done and they didnt want to risk a silly injury. So at the end of the day Nick proved all of them wrong there.

I am crippled, my nerves are fried due to a rapid deficiency, when I go the gym it isn't Eddie or Brian that I look toward, its Nick. Now I am up to a 500 bench (well 450 now I havent maxed out since pandemic) but still working the weights getting better, Nick is legit.

The second lift by nick looked so easy coming up, makes you realize this lift wasn’t hard because of the weight exactly, but because it’s so unbalanced

True. As you get older balance is usually going out the door. He has PLENTY if strength. That's why at 50 when you are in the roof of a house you ask yourself "What am I doing up here". Not that you can't be just shouldn't be. My grandfather fell off a roof broke his back because of balance. Some things are a young man's area.

The biggest difference was that he didn’t walk back on the second lift. They made him stay in place and get a good foot position. So yes, it was about balancing for sure.

Something I think is really incredible is how genuine and kind these strong men are. When their friend failed to squat the weight it wasn’t “oh man you are so weak!” It was “you don’t have anything to prove”

It is absolutely insane Paul Anderson did this squat in the 1950’s and trained with makeshift farm equipment. He was so far ahead of his time it’s unbelievable.

No doubt you need to have crazy crazy strength to do this but if you have a negative thinking process and tell your yourself you can’t most likely you won’t be able to. Your mental process has a big thing to do with it.

I like that for this show they don't just calculate the weight and use normal weights, they actually try to recreate the original lift. Like this one, the barrel lift and the carousel one. It's a lot of work to make it "accurate" and is (unfortunately) surprising to see from History channel today.
