Ricardo in this show really proved how skillful of a bladesmith he is. Not only was he able to make a perfectly functional blade, but he also made two within the time limit WITHOUT wasting any time on finalizing the details. The other contenders from previous episodes, however, were still begging for five days instead of four (albeit some of the contestants did get either complicated weapons or are required to meet parameters by the slightest of details. But still, Ricardo is, bar none, a true genius and I hope he becomes an ABS Master Bladesmith.

@@Lickicker Damascus forging techniques are lost, what we have is wootz, folded steel with an acid, but other details were lost. the real Damascus steel was mentioned by Crusaders to have feats equal to modern steel AND having the cool look. the difference between REAL Damscus steel and modern version, is like the difference between Muramasa Katana, and any other Katana.
@belalabusultan59114 жыл бұрын
@Eve it depends on the build itself, a sword that has emphasis on straightness like a Katana or Scottish broadsword will lose some Beauty with Damascus style, while Damascus can improve the look of Curved swords (Scimitar) and Celtic and Viking weapons since their art style merge well with the Damascus battern. Judges did the right thing. Safety is number one, or so they claim. Imagine being a pro tennis player and being handed an awesome racket to play with. Then they ask you to play with a racket that is possibly double or triple the weight of the first. Doesn't sound like much, but injuring your rotator cuff, elbow, or wrist is not fun at all. The judges wouldn't be able to test his heavy blade the same, as they'd have to hold back to control the weapon and try not to injure themselves or lose control. They made the right call.

Imagine being in a weapons lesson with Doug and when he asks you to step up so he can demonstrate something to the class l, and you hear him say to someone " blade smith, you're up first"

After watching so many of these, Ricardo is definitely one of the better and smarter smiths. He used what he know and is comfortable with and just did it. He didn't do anything fancy like Damascus or weird shaping or even tried to put his own signature twist to it.

He managed his time well, used his skills and tools to their fullest, and paid close attention to the details of balance, weight, and other handling-related aspects of the blade, in addition to making a second blade with the new insight and experience he gained from the first one. Other Smiths: Durr, Damascus cuz pretty

Before creating a weapon, you should check back the history of the blade and know if it is a one handed sword or two handed sword. He loses because he created unidentical to ikakalaka sword that should be, it is a one handed sword but he created a two handed one which is not ikakalaka sword.
