Fowler banked his fires in season 3, if this can be successfully done here then you might make it without a ferro rod. Imo it's a massive disadvantage having to do all that work every time you need a fire when it could have been done with a few swipes of a rod. Building a boat is a huge project as well, tried a few times before with zero success for bringing in food, not something I would do but hopefully Colter will have better luck. I like Theresa's shelter the most so far, if it can hold a steady temperature then it's a big win and calorie saver. A lot of strange comments being posted, must be a LOT of people who are new to Alone. Why take an axe and a saw? Most of what you do involves wood, you could lose or break one of them, and an axe will get you through the ice to fish, etc etc. You're not alone you have photographers? There's no way the person who said that has ever watched a single episode. Come on be serious.

with a fishing net and a boat, you can catch a lot of fish if you know what your doing. but it's bit dangerous thing to do in a big lake with a home made tarp boat
@marko99123 жыл бұрын
@@HENRIKOIVUROVA Season 1: Lucas Season2: Jose Martinez Amoedo Season 4: Ted and Jim Season 7: Kielyn Lucas built a nice canoe but didn't catch any fish, his boat was used to find a better location if I remember rightly. Jose's boat was a work of art, but didn't get any fish and tapped out after turning over. The twins threw something that floated together and had no luck at all, their location was dire so worth a try but no good in the end. Kielyn made use of a barrel to build a raft but quickly gave up when she decided it was too unstable and not worth the risk. The above would be enough for me to not consider building a boat, unless I was an expert going in with with a plan and properly prepared. Clay even made a few fishing rods to prepare pre show. Colter's taken too much of a gamble. It's good entertainment for us but to be completely honest you're setting yourself up to fail. Once in a lifetime opportunity so your gameplan needs to be solid. Kielyn only built a raft because all her other fishing attempts had failed so it was worth a try. It would be great if Colter could make that boat work, but wow he's taken the most gambles of all contestants, building a boat for the first time on location and no ferro rod. Will fortune favour the brave?

@@marko9912 I'm not expert on net fishing myself, but i know people who are, and i've been fishing with them and you can get more fish than you can eat with a fishnet if know what your doing, how deep to set your fishnet and how to pick a right spot. in my experience fishing rods are bit of a gamble, you can sometimes spend a days fishing and catch nothing. but with fishnet you can just check out once a day did you catch anything, it takes like 1hour from your day.

you definitely need to take the reflective 12x12 tarp, but you need it as a lean to roof over a fire on stilts out in the lake. You need to cut streamers of this tarp for fishing lures. You need a piece of tarp with which to line your stone-boiling pit, until you can make the 4 one-gallon each baked clay cookpots with lids. You need the tarp to make an anorak, mittens, booties, shorts, leggings, using the Gorilla tape. You need the tarp and tape to make a waterproof fire-kit, and food containers. The sleeves of your outer shell jacket serve to store 2 gallons of water. You need to drink at least a gallon of water per day, and to intake some salt, too. You dont want to have to boil 2 qts of water twice per day with that little cookpot. What a pita that is! Instead, filter 3 gallons of water thru your T shirt, and stone boil it in a pit, line with tarp, lined with sand or gravel.

for the first 4-6 weeks, the only shelter required is a pole tent made out of the 20x20 tarp. It can be done in 2 hours. Once it's for sure too cold for rain to be a risk, then you convert the tent into the triangular 4x4x7 ft sleeping shelter with a 3 ft thick layer of compressed debris all around you. During that month or so, you can be accumulating the debris and keeping it dry inside of the pole tent. 6-8 hours or so. The actual conversion into the sleeping shelter only takes 2 hours. You need to be nearly done with everything before you switch to the sleeping shelter. There is a way, however to have room, light and warmth, just in front of your shelter. So you CAN do a lot of work in that manner, if need be.

Outriggers are a fix for a poor design. In testing various types of tarp boat builds, found that round or v-bottoms are never stable. Using ovoid ribs with flat bottom makes an excellent frame , and floor stringers need to be UNDER the ribs. Easiness stable tarp boat frame looks like a bathtub.

The thing about Colter that I didn't understand was that he built a boat that he was constantly paddling around in but I never saw him trolling a lure of some kind behind it. When you're in an area with such aggressive fish and you have a hand crafted boat that you're paddling around in - that seems like the most logical thing to be doing. It's a passive style of fishing that works incredibly well for fish like the trout they were catching.
