Brazil also had a serious drought in this period (1877-1879) that claimed about 400.000 to 500.000 lives. We, Brazilians, also call it the Great Drought (Grande Seca, in Portuguese), and it took place in region Northeast of our country.

Wiki: great famine of 1876-1878. In part, the Great Famine may have been caused by an intense drought resulting in crop failure in the Deccan Plateau.[1] It was part of a larger pattern of drought and crop failure across India, China, South America and parts of Africa caused by an interplay between a strong El Niño and an active Indian Ocean Dipole that led to between 19 and 50 million deaths

@@Lilhajxjk274 When people disagree with your opinion thats not being silenced David :) being silenced is when the state police knocks on your door for your opinions. You posting on here is proof you have an outlet for your voice already. Sadly the thing i learnt over the last 4 years is that the word "Debunked" has lost all it's credibility. I have engaged in enough of these long conversations with pro commies in the past to know how this pans out (ie I don't buy your version of events/numbers and vice versa). So we'll cut to the inevitable end of we both agree to disagree :) take care bro and enjoy your freedom of speech cus not everyone can

If the Qing had failed to help in the Northren Chinese drought then the local people would rebel. But to me, the rebellion could be easy to pit down because due to the fact that the Qing had greatly modernized and reformed it’s armies which means that all the rebels would be mowed down by bullets and shells before they could even capture a large amount of territory.

China did not have harvest due to natural disasters for consecutive three years from 1959-1962, which led to famine and many people died of starvation. China asked the international community for help, but nobody did because none of the rich countries at the time recognized the Mao government as legitimate. It's cruel. Afghan people are in a similar situation right now.
@jeremiahblake3949
@jeremiahblake3949 3 жыл бұрын
... yeah natural disasters were totally the reason for those famines and not the crazy economic edicts of their government. And also while America never offered aid explicitly, the Chinese foreign minister outright denied aid saying that "we will not be beggers". It's not our moral responsibility to give aid to those who inflict injury on themselves, only to those who are victims of nature or others.
@userwsyz
@userwsyz 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeremiahblake3949 note you quote "we will not be beggers". That means the international rich countries, which did not recognize the PRC as a legitimate government at the time, wanted prc to beg for food, and cede its control of the country.
@MagSnapShots
@MagSnapShots 2 жыл бұрын
The famine wasn’t solely because of natural disasters. It was more due to disastrous economic planning by the Mao government. Australia and Canada defied US sanctions to provide grain to save China’s famine.

i would rather starve than kill my parents or loved ones, what the heck? and i am not the only one who would rather die than hurt someone i love. i can hardly understand what happened there. i mean if the people died on their own without being killed - okay. i mean, anyone who loves someone would be like "eat me to survive once i passed" but murdering them to eat? dude. no. a lot of them didn't love their partners or children oviously?
