This is when she began rearranging and some times rewriting lyrics when needed to be age appropriate. She also changes her voice to adapt to the song. Listen to this, Feeling Good, I'd rather go blind and Autumn Leaves and you will see what I mean! God Bless!

after watching Angelina over a year, I think Angelina style is really diverse. She likes trying new things, maybe new challenges. Sometimes she pays homage and sounds like the original (Etta James, I'D RATHER GO BLIND kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnybnoCOhsdmlas ). Sometimes she changes the tempo to what she considers a better feeling on the lyrics.

She's a child at this age, she doesn't see what we adults do. Her grandmother loved jazz and played it all the time. Now from what i've read , Angelina loved the toon, she didn't understand English yet, and listened to it over and over and started singing it. I'm not sure the grandmother understood English well , because, they say the reason Angelina doesn't sing this song anymore, is because when the family found out it was a song about suicide, she stopped singing that song. But in the contest, that's why the older man asked her if she knew what the song is about. He knew what it was about. So when she said it was about a sad Sunday, he paused then said, "yes it is". I think she so stunned him with her talent, he was wanting to know how advanced she really was. That's my favorite part, he is stunned throughout the song, but as soon as she finishes . his whole body seems paralyzed, he's completely stunned and for awhile, he collapses in his chair. LOL never seen a reaction like it, its worth looking at. On this song, I hear it as jazzy. Angelina takes songs and makes them her own, often changing it quite a bit. You just have to love the end when Rosie gives her the toys, that look on Angelina's face tells you all you need to know.......She's a normal sweet little girl. Thanks History Buff for covering these two songs. Really enjoy your thoughts on these reactions.

This performance was very much like her video of the cover. Her cover for Quincy Jones' birthday has the orchestra more in line with the original version, including the end... She is just adorable !!!!! I love that you play the original version before, many reacted to her I Have a Spell on You and mistakenly think is a cover of Nina Simone, when is really a cover of the original version from Screaming Jay Hawkins. Also, if people listened to Billie Holiday's Gloomy Sunday, they will realize why the Norway Got Talent Judge's were so impressed with her rendition of it. I have also listened first Summertime's original cover and can appreciate her rendition. I was not familiar with any of these songs, but thanks to her talent I am also discovering so many classics....

She started learning English much earlier, family lived a couple years in the States when she was 3-5. Interview at 5 speaking English. I wonder if her skills in changing the sounds of vowels stem from all the different languages she grew up with, Norwegian, Swedish, Persian, Japanese and English, and having a brilliant ear for sounds. Just a thought.

Lonwolf. I feel quite sure her hesitation came as a result from the fact that the literal translation of "Norske Talenter" is actually "Norwegian Talents". This could very well be the first time she had to say this in english, so she tended to speak this out the literal way. She of course just heard the "Norway Got Talent" version from the host, so she picked up on that in the end. Her english is actually no less from her norwegian to my ears. (Almost the opposite actually. I feel confident my english is quite far from hers anyway)

Another great Angelina reaction. Shout out to her accompanist, Steve Conte. He is one of the premiere guitarists in bands and studio sessions in New York City. At an early age, Angelina started working with only the best musicians. If you like to listen to her singing FMTTM, she has, at my last count, 34 different KZbin videos of it in varying styles and venues. If you want to compare her to Frank, watch both the rehearsal video and the audio track of her singing for Quincy Jones' 85th birthday celebration at O2 Arena in London on June 27, 2018. She was 12-years old and sang to the same orchestral arrangement that Quincy wrote for Frank. That was a very good reaction - the Frank Sinatra rendition with the Quincey Jones arrangement - if you want to listen to Angelina cover that you should try the June 2018 performance, Quincey personally invited Angelina to open the show at his 85th Birthday concert at the O2 arena in London. The performance on the View came just after her first appearance at a large concert where she sang What a Difference a Day Makes - Fly me to the moon was brought to Angelina's attention by her school teacher, she does not need to "borrow" anyone's emotions here - it had a direct relevance to her as it spoke of her relationship with her maternal grandfather, I gather that they would look at the moon together and he would hold her hand. In her modified lyrics for Amy Winehouse's Back to Black - she has the line - "I'm the one who speaks to the moon", and of course in her original - Million Miles - about her grandfather, she has the lines "He said I'm watching you from the moon I'm everywhere, see everything you do" "But now he's not here to hold my hand". This young lady is not simply a mimic, in an interview Omer, one of the NGT judges, commented that her first Billie Holiday performance came as quiet a shock to him, he wondered if she was just a mimic, but during a rehearsal of a later song he saw her asking the bass player to change the arrangement, then he saw that she is indeed a true artist, musician and singer. How could an 8 year old possibly have such depth of character?

She widely used that style only at 7/8 years. Later versions of the song are vastly different. The performance for Quiny Jones birthday gala used the original arrangement, sounded very similar to the original. Later covers of other songs often have 50% a strong resemblance to the original artist and sound 50% Angelina, if that makes sense.

In your efforts to understand exactly how she encompasses the emotional and musical understanding of her "style", you're overlooking the two most applicable terms: PRODIGY and GENIUS. When you listen to her with that in mind, you'll see it can't really be explained. Our Barefoot Princess can't be put in a box with a specific label.. Angelina is one of a kind, the kind that comes once in a generation. You search for a female "non African American" jazz singer that she covers... I suggest you perhaps listen to her covers of jazz composers, Gershwin, etc. I strongly recommend you treat your ears and heart to her rendition of SUMMERTIME which she performed and netted her the winner of Norway's Got Talent @ age 7 ( which she stated on AGT). Jazz is her first love and strongest influence. How about you just allow yourself, like all of we her fans, to submerge yourself in the wonder of her voice and ability to take us up in flight to her world, no questions asked, just drown in the beauty of her talent. Thanks! ❣️

Thank you for your heartfelt reaction to Angelina. Your response was as expected. The feeling of peace, praise, and love for a young girl whose Talent is through the roof cannot be measured. Angelina's fans have praised and loved her since she was a small child. She has an incredible history. She began singing at one and a half years old and by the age of three was listening to jazz and the classics on repeat, singing along and absorbing styles and techniques. She was a true prodigy. Norwegian born Angelina won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8 years old singing Old Time classic songs that are unheard of in a child that age. She became the youngest ever winner of an international Got Talent Show! Since that time, up to her present age of 15, she has recorded over 135 songs on KZbin which you can find on Rusty shackleford's homepage on KZbin. It is a chronological list beginning at age 6, her first time in the studio. List consists mostly of cover songs, and approximately half a dozen originals which are over the past year or two. It's not just about her voice, but the emotion and attitude she conveys through her music. kzbin.info/aero/PL2v8kgVeo4EbQD6l_WAVjOfItquzW7oEc Why do we love and praise Angelina? It is because her soul is as pure as her Talent. She is humble, compassionate, and filled with empathy for her fellow man and for the world. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace to make the world better. How can you not love her? When she was 6 years old, she was in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and promised she would never again wear shoes while performing until all children of the world had shoes! At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, and became the youngest ever published author in Norway. So again, how and why do we praise and love Angelina? It is self-evident. Reactors from all over the world have been following her for years and are now more than just reactors. They have become loving fans to support her as we do. You cannot follow Angelina without developing an emotional attachment. I hope you continue to react to Angelina and her loyal fans will flock to your channel and subscribe in anticipation. Welcome to this rabbit hole from which you can never escape, nor would you want to. Peace.

Angelina has the unique gift of truly understanding The human condition. She is an avid reader and was at that time also. Although she is young, she's still obviously has the ability to take the experience of the lyrics and interpret them in her way so that she can elicit the emotion of the song even though she has not experienced it. This is in evidence in that she closes her eyes frequently when she's singing. She goes into her own world to feel the emotion. Angelina, when she covers a song, pays respect to the original artist, but incorporates her own style and makes it her own. That is the sign of a true artist.

Hey, HB. I personally hope you continue to review the original artists when you review Angelina's cover songs, (as time allows 🙂). I enjoy the unique perspective the comparison affords. Angelina's voice is so distinctive one tends to focus on the vocal quality she achieves at such a young age. The direct comparison with the original artist really highlights her sophisticated style and arrangement choices in a way I've not encountered before through other review channels. I look forward to watching your channel grow!

Listen to this old ( idiot ) me. There are studies that says. The thing/ baby. In their mother's womb. Can absorb sounds. Even at times, reacts to certain kinds. The grandmother loves a certain kind of music. She played them in the house over and over . Mom was pregnant. Sounds his the little thing inside that belly for the length of that pregnancy. And after birth. The baby tool all that sound in. Now its coming back out. Only a little different.

Great insights, me thinks as a fellow historian and musician. :-) Indeed Angelina “angelizes” most of her covers, instead of copying. However, I am not really into that “one camp or the other” thinking. In a sense, almost all music is “copying”, whether it is notes from a score or stylistic elements. I think what confounds a lot of listeners about Angelina, is that she is CAPABLE of copying or mimicking any number of great artists. She can sing almost exactly like Billie Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Whitney Houston and many others. That means she has a great ear, as well as vocal capabilities. So she can “mimick”, and I think that is what she does in her very first NGT performance with “Gloomy Sunday”. However, she is also a great interpreter and arranger of music - or in short, a gifted musician who happens to use her voice for her main instrument. There’s a backstage clip showing this very well, where she “educates” the trumpet player ahead of the NGT performance of “Summertime” by singing his part while mimicking the trumpet sound. But when she sings “Bang Bang”, she certainly isn’t mimicking Nancy Sinatra, who she outsings by a mile. A lot of “angels” get tired of the comparisons to other singers, and sometimes I do too. (Yes, she can sound like Amy in one soundbite and like Whitney in another, but hey, do you think Amy could ever sing like Whitney or vice versa?) But comparison is how we judge good from bad, just as mimicking is a very important way of learning. Angelina Jordan is an incredibly talented artist, and part of that artistry is that she can draw inspiration from a number of great singers who were talented in their ways, but almost always much less versatile than she is. She is the apprentice who became a master at the age of eight, but she can still conjure up those greats when she wants to. It is inspiration, not mimickry. Oh, BTW: There is also a clip of Angelina doing (what is known as) a Sinatra song in the style of Sinatra. That would be “My Way”. But when she does “You Make Me Feel So Young”, the angelizes it instead...

Did you see how she hugged and rubbed Rosie’s back? She reminded me of an adult way of showing love. She is either an old soul reincarnated to show us something, idk. I am hooked with everything AJ. Her music brought me here.

I think the closest I can get to her stile is, Amy Winehouse tripped and bumped in to Billie Holiday and the two landed in a little girl from Norway. Its her own stile at the end of the day, She Loves to sing and we are all fortunate to be here for it.

So glad you did the Sinatra version. Imo, this is AJ's favorite song as she has performed it many times in different versions, including the Sinatra version you played. At Quincy Jones' request for his 85th birthday celebration the same rendition he arranged for Frank Sinatra. There is also a video her grandma Mery made at age 10. Would love all 3 AGT on one reaction!! Thanks so much for continuing this "historical" journey.

Children may not have to go so deep within to recognize a feeling or to express it, she’s feeling the words as she understands them. A child without shoes, is a sad thing for a child as it is for an adult however With far more baggage and so on, yet the intensity of the feeling they both experienced may be the same. She’s gifted in expressing those emotions through her voice. Quite the prodigy

I think Angelina has a clear favoritt in this song. Since 8 yo she has a great many (close to 10 on YT) performances and versions of the song. It`s even on her album "It`s Magic (2018). Quite understandable, as she gets to sing out loud her big inner wish; "- fill my heart with song and let me sing for ever more . . ." That is surtenly my wish for her as well. Great reaction.

As you get into Angelina covers you will find she puts her own style on all her covers. And her five orginals sons that she wrote are amazing. Angelina can sing any and she does. She takes on all genres. It's wonderful to listen to.

Its hard to explain. Her resonance changes a lot from warm and open to a more forward placed "tinny" sound that mirrors that 1930s-40s style. Its not a bad thing but very stylistic

Hi Buff, you'r right: Don't "compare" Angelina with other artist - but to contrast Angelinas song with the song of another artist is very interesting. So we can better understand where Angelina gets her inspiration from. So you asked for other (female) singer which have sung "Fly Me To The Moon" (or "In Other Words" what was the initial title of this song). I found some some - and I think you can find more. And: You should consider, that also Angelina sung this song often and there are several versions on YT. Even one version with the arrangement of Quincy Jones, which was the arrangement he made for Frank Sinatra AFAIK... Angelina sung it on the 85th birthday show for him in the O2 Arena London. There are several recordings of Angelina doing this song. I think most people feel that the best was at the Quincy Jones birthday rehearsal concert when she was 12. It was with full orchestra and her voice was matured. It is the two and a half minute video and she is wearing yellow.

Angelina ,as you said, is not a mimic she is an original artist even when covering another's style. Angelina has done many versions of this song , here is her version in Frank's style when she is a bit older, with a very similiar orchestra arrangement .. ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/hX7OqKKnirOBoac ) She seem to never do this song the same way twice, but always fantastically creative. Great reaction looking forward to the next one of Angelina..

I know I may be wrong, but I'm pretty certain that Mr. Sinatra himself was a teeny weeny off key at one stage in this top notch production, and that's one thing I've NEVER heard from Angelina through all of her covers, mostly recorded in one take in her room with only an instrument and the mic. Now you probably wonder at what part I think I heard this? Gonna be interesting if someone will back it up... Hehe Listen closely to the part between the 3:03 - 3:05 mark in this video (Specifically the words "All I"). Go in at least 10 second before this, just to get the "feel" for his general tone (as if you needed... Lol) I'm loving your channel btw. Quality commentary and insight always. Much love and respect from Norway. 🙂👍

It's interesting you say that because I'm pretty sure angelina was a bit flat when she held that higher note towards the end. You can see it on my face but I didnt say anything because I didn't want the pitch forks to come out. Granted, she's 8 and it was live and I could be wrong
@kristena9285
@kristena9285 3 жыл бұрын
@@HistoryBuff She was a few cents flat on that note but she pitched it up towards the end. She could have played it safe by putting on a vibrato... Sinatra was always, in my opinion, a tiny tad flat, or at least centered his notes on the low end of the acceptable area of "being in tune".. Stylistically that is. He did it his way..

The word you're looking for is euphonious. Of course, the kid has no deep understanding of what adult songs mean. She has an ear for what's beautiful, taught by her granny, and this ability makes her believable. Though, she's a very smart kid and understands the figurative language, but she can't fully follow emotionally. I don't think this should be her focus either. I enjoy her voice alone and don't pay much attention to the meaning. She could sing the phonebook for all I care. If you can't "believe" her that's a you problem.

Angelina has amazing flexibility as can be witnessed by the following two songs: Shield (she wrote as a 12-year old. Performed on Scandinavian talk show Skavlan. In the interview before Angelina sung, she said that when she sings she goes into an endless other world that is full of happiness. Angelina said the song's sound was inspired by the Bond films. Her favorite Bond films are Diamonds Are Forever and Goldfinger: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooLXhpWMgMdjrNU To show the incredible cross genre abilities Angelina has, when 13-years old she collaborated with the Norwegian EDM (Electronic Dance Music) duo TRXD, and recorded the vocals for the song Above The Water. It has only been released officially as an audio track in 2020. However, an amazing, unofficial video was created that added some footage of shuffle dancers: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2e2mp-to7dlkMU
