Break the Rules but you're about to start the North Hollywood Shootout

The North Hollywood shootout was a confrontation between two heavily armed and armored bank robbers, Larry Phillips Jr. and Emil Mătăsăreanu, and police officers in the North Hollywood district of Los Angeles on February 28, 1997. Both robbers perished, twelve police officers and eight civilians were injured, and numerous vehicles and other property were damaged or destroyed by the nearly 2,000 rounds of ammunition fired by the robbers and police. At 9:16 a.m., Phillips and Mătăsăreanu entered and robbed Bank of America's North branch. The robbers were confronted by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers when they exited the bank and a shootout between the officers and robbers ensued. The robbers attempted to flee the scene, Phillips on foot and Mătăsăreanu in their getaway vehicle, while continuing to exchange fire with the officers. The battle continued onto a residential street adjacent to the bank until Phillips, mortally wounded, fell; Mătăsăreanu was incapacitated by officers three blocks away and bled-out before the arrival of paramedics more than an hour later.

To think, the two men were practically unstoppable and if I remember somewhere even one of the officers said "They have automatic weapons. There is nothing we can do to stop them" since the officers were primarily armed with .38 Special, .357 and 9mm with some 12 or 8 gauge shotguns. Imagine being an officer, your guns barely effective against two robbers who haven't been stopped - armed with automatic rifles you lack peppering at you, must've be a frightening experience.

I recently watched a documentary about this. One of the officers who was on scene claimed he shot one of the suspects in the back with his 12 gauge shotgun from 20 yards away (if I'm remembering that distance correctly) and the robber just turned around and aimed his rifle at him. Absolutely terrifying.

For stuff like this, I totally understand bringing lethal force, but I just don’t understand why they can use stuff like gas at riots is all. It's non-lethal which is probably the legal definition that allows cops to use it during riots which is better than firing rubber bullets or just plain using their batons

Police and civilian self-defense use is not banned in the same manner.[20]" The same page also stated that the short and long term effect of Tear gas hasn't been researched properly and what Research does exist seems to all be low in quality and doesn't establish a proper conclusion

The brazilian expeditionary force had around 25.900 men, and they lost less than a thousand in the war, the germans saw them as ruthless forces that would never stop, and rumour says that they stole an american tank once.
