This is one of those battles that served as a testament to the fighting spirit of the Southern people. The same can be said of the Federals. It was most disgraceful Ward wasn't there to help his men. However, Harrison, Coburn, and Wood displayed an excellent example of teamwork coordinating with each other to repulse the Rebel attack. Geary showed himself as the fighting man he was working hard to keep his division together like Rosecrans did at Stones River. One of the many matters the army emphasizes, especially in war, is teamwork.

Out numbered 4 and 5 to 1 in most battles yet still stayed in the fight. I had relatives from both Alabama and Georgia who fought bravely.

Looking at this map, it’s actually insane to see 5 brigades push back 18 union brigades, this battle was insane. How southern commanders even had the audacity to strike so severely outnumbered I don’t understand. The 31st Mississippi ate serious lead, they had it eough

Just out of curiosity, why was Featherston transferred from the East after Antietam? He seems like the aggressive commander that Lee prefers in officers.

Fetherston was incompetent and didnt follow orders. At second manassas was ordered to advance on the enemies exposed left flank but refused. In fairness, he did perform better in the West

My ggg grandfather was in the 55th alabama scotts brigade. Recieved a flesh wound in the leg that day.
