Minored in religion-obviously your interpretation of your religion depends on how you decode and translate the text. Many people came by afterwards (looking at you, Saint Augustine) and made the connection between Scripture and sin. His own outrageous sex drive is what caused him to believe masturbation (etc) was sinful; he was persuasive and majority of people voted for this route of thinking, just as the rules of the Church were forming to develop itself as a major religion, and there you go. Different viewpoints developed into different religions. So much of it is what people said afterwards, not what was said at the time. As a Catholic, I choose to go to the text and context of the time, including the Gospels left out of the Bible, which you guys mentioned.

Yanni really doesn’t understand how ghosts work? I don’t even believe in them and even I know that they’re supposed to be the energy of the person who died and that they’re tied to the spot they died or the location where great pain was experienced throughout their life or something wasn’t resolved that had powerful emotion behind it. Most people don’t become the ghosts it’s just the peeps who had great pain and something wasn’t resolved.

Since you guys are a history podcast, why not look into Dr. Michael Heiser? He studies Ancient histories and “religions”, and he knows the Bible written in the original Hebrew language. He connects ALL Sorts of dots and similarities between ancient writings, such as Giants that existed in both Mesopotamian and Jewish literature. They both speak of these “sons of God” sleeping with the “daughter of men” and having giants (like David and Goliath and the book of Joshua with the promise land.) or “ancient aliens” as some would say. A lot of them overlap. Even the Greeks had “gods and demi -gods” who were half human, half-god. This is the first podcast with him that I listened to personally. It made, So Mich Sense to me. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJC8gpqKerFkeaM Check this guy out! Maybe do a comeback epsiode about this subject. It could be a one-off episode or something like that. Anyways, Love you guys!

Why Catholicism’s basis for salvation is a religion and not based on What Christ did: Romans chapter 10: “For Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on law [with all its intricate demands] shall live by it.(A) 6 But the righteousness based on faith [which produces a right relationship with Him] says the following: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into Heaven?’ that is, to bring Christ down; 7 or, ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ that is, to bring Christ up from the dead [as if we had to be saved by our own efforts, doing the impossible].”(B) 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”-that is, the word [the message, the basis] of faith which we preach-(C) 9 because if you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord [recognizing His power, authority, and majesty as God], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart a person believes [in Christ as Savior] resulting in his justification [that is, being made righteous-being freed of the guilt of sin and made acceptable to God]; and with the mouth he acknowledges and confesses [his faith openly], resulting in and confirming [his] salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him [whoever adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Him] will not be disappointed [in his expectations].”(D) 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Gentile; for the same Lord is Lord over all [of us], and [He is] abounding in riches (blessings) for all who call on Him [in faith and prayer]. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord [in prayer] will be saved.” 14 But how will people call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how will they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher (messenger)? 15 And how will they preach unless they are commissioned and sent [for that purpose]? Just as it is written and forever remains written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!” Romans chapter 11: “6 But if it is by grace [God’s unmerited favor], it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace [it would not be a gift but a reward for works].” Ephesians chapter 2: “But God, being [so very] rich in mercy, because of His great and wonderful love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were [spiritually] dead and separated from Him because of our sins, He made us [spiritually] alive together with Christ (for by His grace-His undeserved favor and mercy-you have been saved from God’s judgment).(A) 6 And He raised us up together with Him [when we believed], and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, [because we are] in Christ Jesus, 7 [and He did this] so that in the ages to come He might [clearly] show the immeasurable and unsurpassed riches of His grace in [His] kindness toward us in Christ Jesus [by providing for our redemption]. 8 For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; 9 not as a result of [your] works [nor your attempts to keep the Law], so that no one will [be able to] boast or take credit in any way [for his salvation].” When you understand how Israel was judged by god based entirely on how good their high priest was, and the New Testament talks about Jesus as the new and final High Priest, we are judged ENTIRELY based on his good works… not on our own good works. That is why it is called the GIFT of grace…
