Running is pretty similar, Being tall means you have to take less strides to run at the same speed as a shorter person to run at the same speed, and if he can match the stride rate then run faster, sure shorter people burn less fuel to run but those bigger muscles of taller people can also store more fuel. I'm not saying that Short people can't be good soldiers, there have been tons and tons of them, even below 5 feet that were amazing, but on average being short is still a disadvantage in terms of strength and running

And even in military, Another thing being bigger helps you in, if you weigh like 100 pounds you still gotta carry 40-60 Pounds of Gear, thats 40-60% your body weight lol, but if you are 150 Pounds (Still pretty light) or 200 pounds that's much less % of your body weight, Elite soldiers ever since Napoleonic Era were chosen that way, Taller men went to Grenadiers while shorter ones to regular infantry, since Machine guns became prevalent it's usually the bigger guys who get assigned to it, It's not an elite position really, just one in basically all teams but it shows that being big helps in some things, such as carrying weight as in Machine gunners case. Height isn't a requirement in Strongman events tho, it's just being as strong as possible, it just ends up bigger guys (Usually 6,5 feet and higher) to match that description.

Keep in mind that the average height of Europeans at that era was less than 5'7.
