Thanks Jon. I never heard of Princess Charlotte til the TV show Victoria. There's not much info on Charlotte due to her short life. Her marriage to Leopold was the most happiest time in her life. She was quite the rebel to her very stubborn parents.

Charlotte was indeed a very sympathetic woman. The resemblance (via portraits) of she and Victoria are remarkable. Leopold seems to have started the trend that saw the Saxe-Coburg princes being called the "stud farm of Europe".

I think she and Victoria could’ve passed for sisters if they were alive at the same time.

You referred to her in your introduction as "Charlotte Augusta "The Princess of Wales". She never held that title. During Charlotte's short life, her mother held that title. Her correct title was "Princess Charlotte of Wales" in the same way that Elizabeth II was Princess Elizabeth of York. Or in the same way that the current Prince of Wales' daughter is called Princess Charlotte of Wales, as her mother Kate holds the title Princess of Wales. It makes a difference.

John, having previously heard the recounting of the events of poor Charlotte's life, I was hesitant to watch the video. Yours was no less sad, but still interesting. Thanks for all that you do.

One of the most tragic stories in the history of the Royal family. I seem to remember that as a result of this medical disaster, the medical experts of the time decided to make drastic changes to procedures related to maternal issues.

So sad that after all she went through as a child, when she finally found happiness it was so brief. Could you do a bio on Leopold? He is the one who arranged for the daughter of his sister to marry the son of his brother. ... and together they inherited the throne that would have been Charlotte & Leopold's. And Leopold did marry again & was given a crown in Belgium, but not with the love & happiness he had with Charlotte.

Princess Charlotte was very popular with her people, too, it seems. I remember it being said that after her death ‘it was as if every home in the country had lost a favorite child’. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but probably not by much given the poor public opinion of her uncles who would therefore inherit in place of her or her son.

Caroline and George were distant cousins in that her mother was his father's sister. The least distant cousins possible. Leopold's sister was Queen Victoria's mother, and Queen Victoria's husband Albert was their nephew.

For correction, she was not Princess of Wales. She was Princess Charlotte of Wales. No princess in British Royal history ever held the Princess of Wales title on her own right. The title was only given to male heirs (Prince of Wales)
@LucasHorst-zi3rl11 ай бұрын
This princess shaped the entire course of history, if Charlotte had lived she would have been Queen Charlotte I of the United Kingdom and her husband Leopold prince consort, and thus Leopold II of Belgium would not have existed nor would we have the genocide of the people of the Congo enslaved by the hands of Leopold II, just as Queen Victoria would not have existed as she was the result of the race for the next heir to the throne and her father Edward Duke of Kent won, without Queen Victoria without her marriage to Prince Albert and without her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. and a large part of them mixed with other members of the European royal families, that is without Kaiser Wilhelm II, Nicholas II, George V and of course without Queen Elizabeth II and the current King Charles III. The death of Princess Charlotte of Wales changed the entire course of history not only of the succession to the British throne but also of several European monarchies

@@HistoryRoadshow also after I come and get it. I finished listening and they also put hot compresses to already bleeding. Thank you now I know what the team from BBC "Victoria" was about. The scene when Queen Victoria is pregnant and really hungry for a lot of food, and he tells her she should eat anything she desires....
