I love you videos but the first crusades were not the start of the religious war. In fact there were many jihads marched on Christian land before the crusade.I only pointed out because he said that he say it’s where the start of a long struggle and countless death when the struggle had already been started.

Echo Christians persecuted Arabs, North Africans, Persians, and Levantines far before Islam emerged. One clan was persecuted in such a degree that they finally submitted as vassal states, they were known as Ghassanids. Islam unified all persecuted regions under an empire and made an uprising possible. Even the Jews in Jerusalem sided with the Muslims against the Byzantine Christians and were front-row soldiers during the liberation of Jerusalem from Roman control, which banned Jews from entering holy sites for around 500 years, only to be allowed to enter again by the Muslims. Most of the Canaanites of Jerusalem then submitted to Islam, and many Jews did submit to Islam.

Really, muslims invade Egypt, Syria, North Africa, Spain, Jerusalem and Anatolia, but the Crusades were just meant to stop Europeans from fighting each others?? it's really simple. for those who are confused by the turkic titles Beylik: literal translation "Lordship", small groups of tribes who answer to a single horse lord; Bey(translation: Lord). they are basically warlords. Atabey: Literal translation: "Fatherlord" chief-lord, they are basically Chieftans. turkoman: the original name of the oghuz turks. ottoman and modern turkey turks are infact turkomans. the correct pronunciation is Turkmen oghuz turks are the southwestern brethren of the kipchak turks(kazaks, krygz, tatars, cuman etc etc)

The story of the collapse that occurred after the death of Malik Shah is one of those great dynastic struggles that belongs in the same category as the fall of the Mongol Empire, the Plantagenets and Capetians, the Wars of the Roses or the Song of Ice and Fire. It's utterly epic in scope and filled with amazing personalities. The descendants of these people filled all of Persia, Syria and even Byzantium. It was an epic family. I haven't even finished watching, but I certainly hope to see that we get all the way to the story of Zengi and Nurredin. Amazing work Pete.

Especially since most of the history books are biased towards the western powers when it's clearly them who enroached upon the lands of free people. Killing Orthodox Christians and Muslims all at the same time it was like killing two birds with one stone. The Seljuk Turks dynasty are from one of the 24 Oghuz Tribes that called ‘KINIK’ tribe. They used his Turkic language for family, people and military. But used farsi as official state language. The Turks today in Turkey are completly moved to anatolia and the west after battle of Malazgirt by the great Turkic Sultan Alp Arslan in 1071. In 1277 Karamanoglu Mehmed Bey is known as a devotee of the Turkish language. During his brief term as a vizier, he issued a firman (13 may 1277): From now on nobody in the palace, in the divan, council and on walks speak no language other than Turkic language.

This is truly one of the best historical channels on KZbin. I can't comprehend why it doesn't have at least 100K subscribers. You put so much work into this. Not everyone likes long videos, but for me, it's a sign of proffesionalism. You go in depth with every topic you discuss. I like it. Anyway, Muslim history seems so interesting! Whole infighting, various warlords, Turkic nomads/barbarian "invaders". Fascinating. It's so sad it isn't widely known in the mainstream. Yeah, it's the same mainstream that focuses mostly on English-French history, with some Italian history in between. But what about Danish or German medieval history, then? It's soo underrepresented, sadly. The only things people know about the Medieval Middle East, if anything, is the Islamic Golden Age and the Crusades. That's it. Even then, events like the crusades are either presented without the necessary context or blatantly used as a political propaganda. Hell, even your series about Scandinavian history manages to suprise me. My favourite historical period is Early Middle Ages, and even I know about most important events and peoples, I always learn something new. There was something I've read (heard?) about the history of the Caliphate. Someone said that's basically Roman history on steroids. When it took Rome centuries to become an empire, it took decades to Arabs to do the same. Then, just few centuries later, Barbarian Migrations happen to them. But where Rome had Germanic auxiliaries, who eventually managed to carve out the pieces of the empire and found their own, "barbarian" kingdoms, in case of Arabs it were the Turks. Hell, the descendants of Romans, Italians, remained divided and were essentially under "Germanic" domination until 19 century - by Austrians and French in this case, while Arabs remained under Turkish rule until the WW1.

@Kappa Maybe some interesting additions for this list would be translations of some names. In modern and old Turkish nearly every name has a meaning. Although Turks heavily influenced by Persian and Arabic lifestyle most of the families continued to name their children with Turkish (Turkic) and some nicknames from the traditions stuck to the people. The name of Aq Sunqur actually is Ak Sungur and it means White Hawk. The title Atabeg is actually is Ata Bey which means Ancestor Big Brother. Another one is Muhammet Tapar. Tapar means believer or who worships. This probably means that this person believes in Hz. Muhammed. Atsiz Ibn Uwaq al-Khwarizmi is an interesting name. Atsiz in modern Turkish written as Atsız or Adsız and it means "without a name". This is interesting because naming is a Turkic pagan (Kamist) tradition. The step life was harsh and child death was common so Turkic people don't give their children a proper name until he does a noticeable deed. This guy couldn't get his name or maybe he is rejected to get a Kamist name because he was a decent Muslim. The Ata Bey of Mosul Kerbogha (Gürboğa) actually means Mighty Bull. The actual name of Berkiyaruq is Muzaffer Rükneddin Berkyaruk bin Melikşah and Berkyaruk means Light of Lightning.

The Seljuk Empire was divided into the Great Seljuk Empire in the East and the Anatolian Seljuk Empire in the West. Later, with the Mongolian invasions from the east, the Seljuks were destroyed. Anatolian Seljuks were divided and beyliks were formed. Kayı tribe, one of the beyliks, grew in the following period and formed the Ottoman empire.

Uzes under the Pechenegs on the map of Khazars... Uz mean is shorted name of Oghuz Turks. So they are same things :D But this oghuz tribes become christian in the time. Today they are named as Gagauz. This words came from Gök-Oğuz. Gök mean is blue and sky in Turkish.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but Seljuks were the first "settled" Turkic state. Until they came into picture, Turks had been nomadic people. Seljuks learned statehood from Sassanids and Umayyads. With good leaders successively, they established a state. Ottomans built on this state tradition of the Seljuks. So, they are the successors of the western Turkic empire, just like modern day Turkey is to the Ottomans.

Yes, Uyghurs were the first settled Turkic speaking state, but, we are talking about Near East/Asia Minor. And, Seljuks were by far the most established state Turks ever had. Karahan and Uygur are not good examples to compare to the Seljuks. Why do you think that taking "state heritage from others" is a bad thing? Before Talas War of 750, Turks were nomadic. They continued to be nomadic but slowly got integrated into Umayyads as soldier slaves because Umayyads did not want any Arab factions gaining too much power and overthrowing them. So, they subcontracted protection services to the Turks. It was a win-win for both sides. As Turks gained more power and influence, they revolted and established their own states. So, of course, they have adopted the state notion of the states they lived in. These things don't happen immediately, but takes several generations. There is nothing wrong. History works that way any way. And, why do you have bunch of !!!!s after your sentences. :)}} You need to calm down, buddy. There are so many other things to worry about in life. Take care.

It's amazing how you missed out on the fact that the seljuks started their military career with the khazars, seljuk was the last commander-in-chief of the khazarian forces before switching sides to the Persian Samanids. That's why the seljuks remained in service to the sunnis because the Samanids were a Persian sunni dynasty, and the Ottomans will pick up from where the seljuks stopped, as the Champions of sunni islam. Sunni islam accounts for over 90% of all Muslims worldwide. The origins of the seljuks lies in the khazaria.

Excellent work. Rome knew exactly when to strike. I think you overlooked the fact that Malik Shah was assassinated by Rome's Shia puppet order of assassins. They had strong ties to Rome's private army the knights templar. She went back to her old empire playbook having established naval control of the Mediterranean through Venice who made gold over fist for the logistics of the first crusade. The fatamids were in the pockets of Venice. Those assassins did the leg work in the Islamic world. They were wiped clean by the Mongols in late 13th century. At this point the Latin kingdoms were in alliance with the Shia fatamids against the mongols.

Great Seljuk Empire resemble Holy Roman Empire, the Anatolian Seljuks are important for us. Osman Bey is a noble from Anatolian Seljuk State. When the Mongols destroyed the Anatolian Seljuks, Osman Bey had the Seljuk heritage we are says "Ottomans" so Turkey so We Turks.
