With so much to see in this museum, it's nice to see a personal list of some of the best. The list omitted a few of my favorites, but it provides helpful context for many great masterpieces. Apparently many visitors don't bother to go up to the second floor, and the last time I was there the docents actively encouraging people to do this. Those who don't miss some truly amazing objects. In my opinion, Egyptian National Museum has quantity and the Vatican has diversity, but the Athens National Museum has quality.

One of the best museums in the world. If you had to choose (you shouldn’t) between the Akropolis museum and this, you should first visit thelis one. What gets me is the every day itens. The pottery collection puts modern day kitchen pots to shame. The toys that have lasted for thousands of years, the jewellery and ornamental items that look timeless, the Cycladic idols that capture the essence of human form so much so that iPhone cameras recognise them as human faces…! Of the more grand exhibits the horse literally stops your heart when you first see it. Every visit to this museum is a humbling experience.

Excellent video, and (on a minor note) I was pleased of the dating usage of 'BC', instead of the clumsy and unnecessary 'BCE'. (UK)

the epinetron shows a scene of women busying themselves in the run-up of a marriage, I think: the two lebes gamikos and the loutrophoros are dead giveaways. this suggests the epinetron might have been a marriage present.

Date much too late. ca. 460 B.C. is the generally accepted date and is classified to be in the Severe Style.

Lol. My kids Greek school has the same statues in the entrance. Same at the Greek consulate.

It's ancient Greek art. We had the images of all these "nude" statues in our school books in third grade. There are statues like these in most city squares around all of Greece and most of Europe. The paintings in the Louvre are also "nude". If you are so sensitive lock your children at home without TV and internet.

It's a different civilization than yours which consider the perfection of human body an hymn to God. They believed that remaining healthy and good looking was something Gods were asking of them that's Why they were proud about it and wanted to show it.
