Thanks for all this information A beautiful building and very much worth a visit, even without the library.. I was horrified to see that student poking a book with a biro or pencil at about 17:20. Surely there is a regulation that prohibits any proximity of writing materials? Most rare documents areas in libraries have such a rule.

Said student appeared to be writing on white, bleached (and, therefore, NOT antique) notebook paper situated on her laptop keyboard and, were she actually desecrating the older materials, I doubt they'd have stood by and let her continue or use her photograph for this video. Given the impracticality of having to read the material then walk to an area where one can write to write one conclusions, only to have to then walk back to the library books to read or reference other information, it seems unlikely they'd restrict the presence of implements like pens or pencils BUT...no doubt those permitted to bring such in are well-advised of the consequences of using them on library property and likely trusted students or interns. I doubt they'd let your average Joe walk on in and use it thusly.
