From the candle-lit home of their lead singer, Hit La Rosa comes in hot and doesn't stop until the final measure. The band explores the many facets of Peruvian cumbia music, infusing it with pop music, folklore, jazz and dancehall to produce its distinctive grooves and hooks. The band's precise-yet-dreamlike music and punk sensibility all come together to make music that explores life's shadowy sides. Despite living through a political crisis in Peru, the band brings a message of hope and joy in the midst of struggle and upheaval.

Saw this band in a jungle festival in Peru in 2018, and I still remember it as one of the most authentic, unique and enjoyable concerts I have been to. Was surprised, and happy, to see a NPR Tiny Desk concert by them, hope other people can enjoy their music as much as I do!

Hit La Rosa siempre ha sido uno de los grupos mas originales del Perú. Que bueno que hayan tenido la oportunidad de estar en este espacio y usarla para alzar la voz acerca de los graves problemas que azotan al país. Bravo por HLR! Ojala puedan tener la oportunidad en este espacio otros grandes proyectos independientes peruanos!

Saw these guys playing a small gig in Lima whilst travelling South America in 2018 and was blown away. Great to see them on a platform with a wider audience, see them if you can when gigs are a possibility again!

Focus more on music and less on clothes. Maybe look back to the 90’s to realize it’s the music that makes the artist. Nothing about this show is important. The music is just barely beyond mediocre. Enjoyable, yes. Not able to dance to it unlike my favorite Latin bands with similar timing. It’s just poorly executed in many ways. I’m sorry, but my opinion is this is 3.5/10 You have time to grow and improve. I suggest exploring other countries. Much love

Oh my god, we should tell the whole band to change their political view and start embracing corruption, sexism and police abuse. Maybe this, with the power of conservatism will give them the fire needed to play "real cumbia".

This is psychedelic cumbia, they're not pretending to be like the typical cumbia, they focus more in the experimental side: the beats and fusion inspired by the jungle part of Peru, they're just representing the country as the way they want because Peru is known for barely anything than MachuPicchu and the food so if they can bring the experience of cumbia to other people in their subgenres they're really representing us. Also HLR is not about Latin music, is only about Peruvian music
