This space to nurture is not granted at Chelsea, since they pretty much gutted their entire team since Boehly took over (bar Chilwell, Silva, and James iirc). A bit of a tall order if you ask me.

I think that's the big thing the Chelsea fan keeps missing. This isn't about the players being at fault, it's from the perspective of the club and have they done their due diligence in signing the player. Fofana had big knee issues at Leicester and Saint-Etienne, Chelsea ignored that, paid close a world record fee for a defender for him, and he's followed the pattern of huge knee injuries. It's not Fofana's fault, but it's a horrendous job from the scouting department, medical department, and the transfer negotiations. Similar stories for other big signings like Mudryk

This season has been much better because you have a seasoned experienced coach in Pochettino who has a proven track record especially in terms of getting the best out of young players which what Chelsea have at the moment and more structure within the club in terms of transfer dealings. The signings they have done this season are levels above what they had last season. Since a lot of the signings they made were panic buys after they couldn't land their first choice targets.

As a Chelsea fan, I silently watch and smile regarding Mudryk. People don't know what's coming. The potential is objectively there, regardless if Bevel can see it or not. He's the fastest player in the top leagues, who's two footed (can go both ways and cross/pass both feet), highly skilled (step overs, feints, etc) aka the recipe for a defenders literal nightmare. With good direction he'll be genuine uncontainable.

Anthony and Nunez cost more and both came into more settled sides in good personal form. Last season we had no directors in at all. Boehly had to buy players quickly before putting them in place since if he hired directors first, the transfer window would of been over. Also Chelsea is changing wage model, they can no longer do the lukaku/Haaland 20mil guarantee + (rumored) 25mil bonus. They are no where near the same.

City spent £200m to get close to the same playing field as Utd and Chelsea and then have spent the same as them since. The only real difference is City are good at spending money for longevity at the top. Chelsea are good at spending money to win something every 3/4 seasons but nothing else. And Utd need a director of football.

You are right if you were talking about last season(the past). Chelsea has continued to spend this summer but they have sold lots of players to reduce the blotted squad, and the new sporting directors have made some costly but high-quality strategic signings. Also, there is a new coach who from the beginning seems to be instilling a pattern of play. This is not the Chelsea of last season. A lot of mistakes have been corrected. This may not bring Chelsea instant success, but it will be naive to think that this season's Chelsea is the same as last season's.
