I think there could be a good middle ground I mean there’s no need to belittle people, but being razzed is just part of coming up no reason to be nasty while teaching.

Man they used to make us wear are sleeves setting poles, even inside an underground transformer hell they made us wear gloves and sleeves setting a meter.

Im at Coned in NYC. I work in the services department. We do everything that involves the secondary; pulling, rigging, troubleshooting, meters, in both 10% overhead and 90% underground applications. My goal is to get into the overhead, even if it's for another company in another state.

My bad, didn’t see this response. Check PSEG for apprenticeship. It’s open right now, that’s where everyone is headed anyway! I just bounced, not too long ago once I got my HV title.

Where I live before the utility was bought out they had several trailer mounted transformers for temporary use such as this or if a back yard can failed they would set one up at the start of the line and feed into the secondary. Cant have that now, tweakers would be trying to steal it and the copper conductor. Now everything gets de energized until repairs are made, if you are out 8..12...16 hours, too bad...

Wazzup Christyler that’s right what you see and we do most of the time work energized 4.8kv at any given time, we hardly ever work with opens unless we really have to for any special reason, that’s how we do our work here , and use rubber goods to protect us while in the primary.. thanks , what company do you work for and what location are you at…?? East Coast and whoever is paying basically. You guys had great communication and work practices with the apprentice just wondering how he’s allowed to glove hot primary while not in an insulated bucket with gloves. Most of our system voltage at home is 13.2

@@Joe-oo3xv Proper cover up and only working on one phase. You should never be reaching past a phase to work on another. In over 30 years never saw a pair of sleeves until storm chasing into the states. Never had an issue or saw an issue.

@@linemanundergroundworld4854 I've obviously got so much to learn as an apprentice lineman, but I'm on the other side of the country working for a Coop and there's talk of upgradingour primary voltage from 7200 to 19.9 wye due to load demands. I'm actually so confused how LA runs on 4.8kv with that tiny wire- looked like 6 solid copper? Smallest we even go on our system is 6 solid and those are on our oldest circuits that are slated to be rephased #4 ACSR. Maybe you guys just have tons of substations to distribute your load? Can't wrap my head around it lol. All I can say is obviously it works for LA, so obviously I just don't know enough about how all this shit works.
