It's time for a few more Oregon adventures! So many great trails in this state, and Time Warp has been at the top of my list for years. Conditions are horrific, but this trail is terrific.

Yes. Same. I got back into riding by watching Brian’s videos. I’ve learned so much but the freedom of riding the fun I have and I see. Especially with Sarah. I was watching just a bit before the ‘leave of absence’ I’ve learned a lot about bike maintenance. 👍❤️🙏 I am so grateful for this channel. Dark times are difficult to get through. I have been there to. To have something to watch, something to do is amazing. It might not feel it at the time for me but it shortens it . It puts a smile on my face.

BKXC, although black bear attacks on people are rare, they do occur every year. In contrast to brown bears or grizzlies, black bears are more unpredictable in their behavior around people and are harder to read what they may or not do. And as you've mentioned, don't come between a momma bear and her cubs. Better to be safe and maintain a safe distance than be sorry.
@brendanray8292

I agree with this. Telling people they shouldn't bring bear spray into bear country, regardless of the predominant bear species in the area, is irresponsible messaging. I love Brian's videos but...yikes.
@bkxc

Haha, are you guys reading different statistics than me? The heat probably killed more people in the USA on this day than black bears have in 100 years. But now that I have completely discounted black bears as dangerous I'm sure I will be killed by one.
@davidf1288
@davidf1288 Жыл бұрын
@@bkxc Brian, we didn't provide stats. We just said attacks do happen. I even used the word rare in my post. To dismiss bears as completely harmless and not keep a safe distance could end up like Timothy Treadwell. Just saying... BTW: enjoy your vids and that you and your wife are enjoying the great outdoors experiencing epic places.

Rode these trails this summer and they are so good! Glad I found yours so I could share them with my family! I will say though about the bear snippet, some people carry the spray for all manner of things (including other people and dogs where needed) so it may just be a normal backup for that rider. And as for the ranger, they have to be that extra because lots of people don't listen and end up getting hurt. You've seen the bison videos I'll bet

Felt like some trail builder bashing in this one. I’m sure when you ride so many trails it feels natural to be pretty open about your opinions of whatever trail you’re riding, but it’s always best to err on the side of appreciation for the folks that spend countless hours out in the woods so we all can have places to ride. Gotta put in trailwork time if you want to bark about the quality of the trails.

I have hundreds of videos on the channel appreciating trail builders and the amazing work they do. I am authentic when I am having the time of my life (pretty much every single video), but I owe it to people to be authentic when the experience is bad as well. I took a paid shuttle service that drops hundreds (thousands?) of people on this trail every year. The trail hasn't been built to fit the traffic or skill level of the users. Or maybe conditions with the drought have changed the trail into something unworkable. I have ridden hundreds of trail systems at this point and this was one of the worst. Do I have any credibility in your eyes to make the call when things are bad and hopefully save people from wasting time and money?

Brings back great memories of the 80's when I attended UBI in Ashland and Wayne would take us riding up on Mt. Ashland every night. I still remember Alice in Wonderland, Toothpick, and coming down from the Hang-gliding launch and having a pair of bear cubs running alongside us in the woods for a stretch. My first though was "Cool!" followed a split second later by "where's the momma?!".

I rode Jabberwocky 2 years ago (also in August) and had the same experience. Completely blown out and packed with braking bumps! I think that mainly happens on super fast trails, because it requires hard braking into the corners, versus a more gradual descent and longer, flowing corners. I don't really see too many braking bumps on my local-ish trails in Sun Valley!

Definitely! I think the biggest factor is that EVERY type of rider finishes the shuttle run on that trail, and it's not a great fit for every type of rider.

@@bkxc yup. I lived in Yosemite for a decade and as Sarah mentioned the problem there is with the people, not the bears. I was bluff charged three times trying to get bears away from food that tourists left out. Obviously we need to respect these beautiful, large animals, but bear spray is so unnecessary. What did you think of the way the Ashland MTB Advt shuttle secures bikes in the trailer, via bike’s crank arm? Then a half hour jostling bouncer drive! I just rode Ashland (8-21-2022) and was thrilled: Bull>>Missing Links, DH Catwalk>> Toothpick>>Caterpillar>>Lizard, UH only Catwalk>>Lizard>>Jabberwocky>>Climb back up Waterline to Snark to come down BTI. Maybe bc I’m not as fit/skilled/ of a MTBer as you I’m more easily impressed bc I had an amazing ride even w the slip n slid powder & blown out bits. Day before caught the Cogwild shuttle in Bend (they’ve a much better trailer set up): Swampy>>S.Fork>>Tumalo>>Skyline>>Whoops>>EXT>>Phil’s>>Voodoo>>Grand Slam>>ELV>>left on to COD. I’d suggest to start at Dutchman thgh. Whoops is a must. S.Fork & Tumalo we’re quite lovely; actually they’re all A+++!!! Bend > Ashland. Oakridge was on our plan, but others weren’t into the drive, so we doubled up on Ashland. I’m excited to see your Oakridge vid!

Ashland is good but less trail options than Bend. Bend in my home riding area, but I ride Ashland 1-2x a year. once you do the descent from Mt Ashland through the watershed into town once, you have pretty much ridden all the Ashland trails. It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
