Great job as always. I repaired this model a couple of years ago with some sighted help. Since then, I have acquired a couple more of the exact same machine, but as I already have one, they are in my pile to repair and then sell on.

this came up when searching for a TRK 5190E it looks very similar so im hoping that its similar inside there is a couple of tyhings i have that you dont but for the most part i have the same buttons etc but i have extra's and you have bas and trebble but i have balance and tone instead

Thanks for watching. They are fairly similar units. I have been working on a 5190 on and off for a while. It is mint, but just seems riddled with gremlins. The main thing is to methodical and keep records, because the single, large circuit board means that some wires will likely need de-soldering. Getting the carriage out is a nightmare at first but gets easier. Basically, remove the perimeter/chassis screws, black plastic linkages/actuators - oh, and I'm pretty sure this is the one with the spring loaded tuning gear linkage, which you'll need to pull away from the board... Have a go, take your time and you'll be ok!

@@retro_restos Thankyou for the advice I am hoping it's just belts on the tape player, I'm also considering adding a Bluetooth module in the battery compartment if that is at all possible. Providing I can get the tape going that is. any advice on what i can use to clean outside ? i got electric contact cleaner for some things inside and i have that white grease but i am not sure if it will be needed the only experience i have is with computer tape drives and disk drives

i am having problems getting the pcb out the manual is a bit vague i tool the 5 screws out the board pushed the plastic tab through the hole in the middle all the knobs are off inc volume and headphone jack pcb the right side seems loose the left seems stuck

@@TotoGuy-Original yeah it's an absolute ar*e. At least, until you unscrew the little silver lever on the left, and then pull the sprung loaded lever towards the casing - this is a sprung loaded gear that connects the main pcb to the tuning cord mech. Moving the gear away frees up the board.

@@retro_restos yeah it was a pain to get the board out but got there in the end. managed to get new belts and partially put it back together. the tape player plays fine but rewind and fast forward are not working correctly press down the button then it goes click click pop the pop being the button popping up. not sure what the problem is i assume something to do with the wheels with rubber tyres on maybe

Another great video and restoration, being that you've worked on so many brands, do you think their all the same in design or do you think one particular brand brings more quality and easier to work on, I never owned a Hatichi but they do look nice, what's your opinion on Hatichi. Keep the great videos coming 😊

Thanks as always! I LOVE Sanyo personal stereos, but would rate them overall as my least favourite boomboxes. I think JVC and Hitachi would be my favourites. Solid, well built, relatively easy to work on etc. Sony units generally seem more complicated, with more point to point wiring, everything soldered together in one lump with security screws etc. Not true for all Sony units, but as a general comparison. I'm working through a few games and personal stereos at the moment, then it will be full-on boomboxes 😂

Burst me bubble, I had been looking at Sharp stuff, do you think the mid to late 70s kit is better than the mid 80s kit?

Personally yes. Generally speaking, the late 70s and early 80s were where build quality was superb and features were sensible. A bit later, there were loads of gadgets and flashy lights, but they tended to be cheaper feeling and not so nice to work on.

One of these models sold on ebay still in original box for around I think 200 pounds, think it had never been out the box,but yes worth the work as not many around as they have been??? Great video, and when the belts have gone like a oil it's horrible to clean
