I watched this film with an audience just recently, and after being silent for most of the film, when Thorwald noticed Jeff (and the camera) for the first time, everybody went “OOOOOOOOOOOH!!!!!” in one loud voice.

The fact that Hitchcock was able to make a full length movie set in just one single location and still have it THIS visually pleasing is amazing (same with ROPE that was originally a stage play). They could have easily just have had the window facing a single brick wall on the other side but he decided to give the courtyard a personality of itself.

The most suspenseful movie scene I've ever seen tbh, when i finished watching this scene i was very sweaty And this never happened to me with any movie before, Hitchcock is a real Master and this movie became my favorite of all time.

Hitchcock was on What's My Line when this came out and one of the star panelists was saying when Thorwald turned off the lights she grabbed her husband's arm and said aloud DO SOMETHING DO SOMETHING!

Check this out check it When I saw this film for the first time I saw it in Black and white Due to the fact that I had watched psycho II a couple of days ago in black and white ( changed color tv 📺 setting ) And trust me watching rear window in black and white Made this film more suspenseful

7:47...how long is he just going sit there and watch Lisa? Wouldn't his natural instinct be to call and say hey we're watching you? Especially since he has a phone on his Lap! Sheesh...lets see where this ends... Yeah she got the Golden Ring! Lol

if he called saying they're watching him it could alert the suspect and make him close the drapes, also with the police coming by she had a chance of leaving with no harm.
