An overprotective father hypnotises his own daughter in fear of her running away to get married.
The Changing Heart Dir: Robert Florey
Looking to have an old pocket watch repaired, Dane Ross stops in at Ulrich Klemm's shop. He's amazed by the old man's tales of the special clocks he has built over the years with moving parts such as marching soldiers and flying birds. They strike up a friendship and Dane is asked to stay for dinner which he gladly accepts, especially after he meets Ulrich's pretty granddaughter, Lisa. Over time, Dane and Lisa fall in love but theirs is a secret romance as Lisa says she can never leave as long as her grandfather is alive.

Yeah... there is actually a lot going on in this one. Stories such as this were frustrating to so many people. They gave Hitchcock his notoriety as a film maker. People just had to keep coming back.

**** Spoiler alert **** Ohhhh my.... It's a story, as old as time. Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy. Old Indian man, assumes a German heritage, poses as the girls grampa, and confines her to his small world, preventing the couple from leaving, until the grampa is confronted and reveals that the girl is not kidnapped, but she is mearly a programmed robot, created for, Lord knows, what kind of neferious adgenda. Gotta love the classics. 😄😄😂😄

holy cow, there sure are a lot of people out to get grandpa and accuse him of all sorts of fiendish things. personally, i found the young man's demeanor quite invasive, obsessive, demanding and controlling. the bottom line is that she is not human, people. she is a clockwork, wind up object grandpa created in the form of a human being and brought from the old country. his ownership of it is no more selfish than a person painting a beautiful oil painting and wanting to keep it for himself...or an old man creating a beautiful clock and wanting to keep it for himself.

Then why didn't we hear the ticking before? Why was she able to love the young man if she was just a robot? Sounded, to me, like she became ill and grandpa rigged up her insides to preserve her, or she did die and he created a robot in her image. Episode not clear enough. 🤔

My thoughts. She was his masterpiece clock. It's a shame we didn't witness what happened on the hour. It's a pretty high maintenance clock though. No way to think of winding one's clock is an annoying hassle anymore. "The care and feeding of your human timepiece" instruction book would be necessary.
