When I originally looked up the book’s release date, it gave me the movie’s release date of 2005. I have now been informed that the book actually came out in 1979 which makes it that much more impressive!

For HHGTTG, every medium is distinct and worth trying - I really like the books, but my personal favourite is still the original radio drama - I think you can get it fairly easily on platforms like audible - if you do, make sure it's really the radio drama not the book, as they're likely both on there! It'll probably be called "Primary phase" (and "secondary phase" for the 1980 2nd season). Each season is just 6, 30 minute episodes, so they're very easy to accommodate. Probably don't bother with the "Tertiary phase" onwards, unless you get particularly into it, as they were made much later, as adaptations of the books, after Adam's death (though with his blessing), and don't quite manage the same vibe, despite having a lot of the same people involved.

This was the book that reignited my love for reading a few years ago. I was on vacation and was attempting to quit vaping, and this book really got me thru the worst of it. Will always treasure it.

Douglas Adams is wonderful! The whole Hitchhiker’s series is so much fun, and so are the Dirk Gently novels. And btw it is pronounced Ford pree-fect. This came out wayyyyyy before 2005. The movie may have been 2005, I can’t remember, but the book (which I think is the novelization of a BBC radio series) came out on the late 70’s.

Yes, I see that now. It must’ve shown me the movie’s release date and not the book’s 😅 They’re such great books, and the fact that they’re even older than that is mind blowing. It holds up really well today!

Your next palate cleanser could be MOGWORLD by Yahtzee Croshaw. Super fun, awesome world building and incredibly funny characters.

One of my favorite books ever, i have a lot of nostalgia for this and it still holds up well. Very rereadable for me. And i would definitely recommend reading the next 2 books! They are about as good to me, 4 and 5 are a bit iffy (i still like them tho). also, going from hitchhikers guide to the road is fucking hilarious

Sweet! I was hoping to hear that. You’ll definitely see the next two books in my next book haul video then. And ikr 😂 I’m telling you, I will read whatever, whenever. I’m just trying to read as much as I can no matter what it is!

@@ericbowdenbooks Thx! I've only recently just watched the 1970 adaptation as far as my eye and mind can see and remember, and oh boy, what an absolute powerhouse of a final scene. Also could you plz review Wilbert Awdry's Railway Series books next after Hitchhiker's?
