Exactly! I know there are risks everywhere, but people take it to the extreme by saying not to go anywhere or do anything, so I wanted to show that it's not as bad as people say.

I dont understand the statement, "the women do all the work", soon after showing us the male welder. Where is this stereotype of African men come from? Yes, the women do a lot of work, but so do the men. What am I missing?
@lostwithabeard
@lostwithabeard 7 ай бұрын
Because the statement was relating exactly to the movement of water. If you go to rural areas you'll usually see the women and young girls with giant water containers on their backs whilst the guys are chewing drugs by the road. However I also agree it's not that simple, the guys are also farmers and protectors and like you say welders etc.. so yes it was relating only to the specific cause of water movement.
@nytoaddis76
@nytoaddis76 6 ай бұрын
@@lostwithabeard Men chewing khat does not mean they don't work. Women in medieval UK also carried water on their backs and the men drank beer. In Ethiopia, young girls and women carry water while the men farm and the boys look after the cattle. It is the division of labor. Both the men and women do back breaking work, a heavy burden on of the poor peasants of Ethiopia. Take a look at the desperate measures Ethiopian men take to get to the Middle East to work at menial jobs, I believe BBC did a special on that.

My budget could last 2 weeks and 2 videos or 2 months and a multitude of videos sharing the beauty of Ethiopia, in any case the friends i've met from hitchhiking have led onto so many stories and experiences you can't imagine. I'd really encourage you to try it for yourself!

@lostwithabeer I agree on the 'getting nice stories from the drivers' reason
@lostwithabeard
@lostwithabeard Жыл бұрын
Exactly, not because I'm a hardcore traveller or anything but, it's the same reason I stay at low budget places and drink in cheap pubs. The real people are there, most foreigners come here and stay at the fancy hotels, go to the upmarket restaurants, have your guides, pretty much navigating 90% of the real people going about every day lives. @@shalom744
