If you ever wondered why Messi chose to make that particular goal celebration in front of the Netherlands coach Van Gaal on the 2022 WC, it was because it was Riquelme´s favorite celebration, and it was Van Gaal who sidelined and talked s**t about Riquelme at Barcelona back in the day (and also Di Maria at Man Utd)

Edgar Davids. Many people often forget quite how important he was for Tottenham after he signed for them after leaving Inter Milan. He was pivotal in having Tottenham make the transition from the lower-mid-table mediocrity they had from the early 1990s to the early 2000s into the constant-European-place-challenging Team that they became under Martin Jol from 2005-2007. To go from a team that had never finished above 8th in the Premier League era to two consecutive 5th place finishes with Davids in the team... only for Tottenham to return to 11th in the season after Davids left. It was those two seasons of football with Davids shoreign up the defence in the midfield that transformed Tottenham from being a regular mid-table team to being a European competiton team. Those 2 seasons of what was then UEFA Cup football allowed Tottenham to bring in players like Berbatov, which allowed them to win their last trophy - the league cup in 2008, which kept them playing European football despite an 11th place finish that season. Consequently, they could make more signings to strengthen the squad. Players like Gomes and Carlo Cudiciniin in goal, Chorluka in defence, Modric in midfield, a young Bale from Southampton, and bringing in Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane back from Liverpool up front after Berbatov left to Man United. It is so, so, so difficult to overstate quite how important Edgar Davids was to the modern history of Tottenham Hotspur, despite the fact that he only scored 1 goal, and didn't win a trophy.

@@Lymbe06 I have considered trying to make KZbin videos at some point, but I don't really have the technical knowhow when it comes to editing/sound production to make anything high quality, and my full-time job and other parts of life doesn't necessarily leave me a lot of room to make well-scripted and thought-out videos. Also, the topics I find interesting are incredibly nieche (e.g., the effect that Davids had over a two-year period on Tottenham). Not exactly going to rake in the views!
@zachmalone428

Great analysis and agree about Davids. Not always about the goals and for many teams the difference between success and disaster is leadership, especially when the level of skill is what it is. Also didn't have to mention not any winning trophies at Tottenham in the 2000s. Lmao just giving you a hard time.

Courtois is both one of the Chelsea loans systems greatest triumphs and its worst failure. Simultaneously he was sent out on loan to build experience and develop, and it turned him into an absolutely top draw goalkeeper in every way. It also meant that he spent so long in Spain that he laid down roots, getting into a relationship with a Spanish woman and conceiving a child with her and so, inevitably, he ended up needing to go back to Madrid. It is an entirely separate failing that he was allowed to run his contract down so low and no one at Chelsea thought "Why don't we trade him for Jan Oblak"
@jkutv

This is one of the best comments on here. I always thought it was so odd how they handled coutois. He was clearly always going to be great. To think they had kdb and salah and mismanaged them as well. - obviously in a very different way.

Fernando Morientes AS Monaco FC 3-1 Real Madrid CF (agg: 5-5, Monaco win on away goals) Monaco shock the Spanish champions. By Matthew Spiro at the Stade Louis II AS Monaco FC produced one of the biggest upsets of the season by recovering from a 4-2 first-leg deficit to defeat Real Madrid CF 3-1 and earn a place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League on the away goals rule. Giuly double A first-half goal from Raúl González had further increased the visitors' overall advantage but two strikes from Ludovic Giuly either side of a goal from Madrid's on-loan striker Fernando Morientes left the Spanish giants stunned.

As a Villa fan, our most consequential loan signing would have to be Tammy Abraham. Without his 25 goals in 2018-19 there is simply no way we would have been promoted. All the more impressive when you consider that he had offers to cancel his loan with us and go out to a Premier League club but chose to stay with us and finish the job. On a less uplifting note, Robbie Keane joined us in January 2012 during the MLS close season. He scored 3 in 6 appearances and we carried much more goal threat with him in the team. We stayed up by a 2 point margin and the fact that you could make a genuine case for Keane as our Player of the Season despite making so few appearances serves to illustrate just how truly awful we were in that period.

as a Porto supporter, there are 2 loan move that were huge for us and might deserve a spot for different reasons: - Benni McCarthy was loaned to Porto in Mourinho's 1st season, where Porto finished 3rd. due to financial limitations, he wasnt signed for the 2002/2003 season. but after selling Postiga, Porto was able to sign him and the rest is history... - Casemiro - he was great at Porto, winning league and Porto had a great season in the ucl (even beating Bayern Munich at home, in 1 of the best ucl displays ive ever seen by Porto, only being eliminated in the away game, after Alex Sandro and Danilo got suspended and Porto was forced to play with 4 center backs and an unexperienced winger at the time Ricardo Pereira. he was the only loan deal i know where the loanee team had to pay to sign him - Porto had a option to buy for 7,5 millions euros, which was used but Real Madrid also had a buy-back option for 15 millions, which was also used. Porto would have won a lot more money with him, if he hadnt the buy-back clause but Casemiro arrived at Porto as a last minute signing of an unknown quality and left Porto as 1 of the most promissing defensive midfielder in the world.

I would argue that Glass's impact at Carlisle was limited to the five seconds it took him to score that match-winning goal, whereas the players in this list all had substantial impacts for the entirely of their loan spell. But talking about mentions, here's my 16th request: In eight minutes' time, Guyana take on Grenada in the Concacaf Gold Cup. Excited? I'm sure the fans of Gloucester City, in the sixth tier, will be cheering on their midfielder Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong as he plays for Grenada. But imagine how fans of Chalvey Sports FC will be feeling, a team in the UK's 11th tier on the pyramid, every time their player Chris Morgan pulls on the jersey for the island of Anguilla! What are the seven international players currently playing football in the lowest tier of the English pyramid? I've found a lot, but no one lower than Chris Morgan.

After this year's UCL Final I have one question: What is Manchester City doing right that PSG is getting wrong?

Having the right manager is surely one of the reasons. Playing in a much competitive league doesn't hurt either.

And City are smart with their signings unlike PSG signing 4 new midfielders in one window and then playing them out of position

City have a better manager, better recruitment and know how to get the squad to play as a team instead of trying to force a "Galacticos" style. PSG will never win the UCL

a documentary of Borussia Dortmund and how they were extremely close to bankruptcy in 2002 time and how Bayern had to save them. The extreme difficulties the club has had to manage within to get back to where they are #thepeopleschannel

Bayern didn't save them, they helped them with a relatively small loan but that wasn't saving the club, that's a wrong narrative

No disrespect to Berba, but I still can't believe we picked him over Tevez. United should never of done that. Should've played Tevez more in the 08/09 season and they should've offered him the contract a LOT sooner than they did. Easily could've been top 5 striker's we ever had if he stayed. Ruined everything then by signing for our rivals

I would like to Apologize to Acerbi since i didn't really believe in him and thought we signed him as a backup. Thank Mista for Inter 💙🖤 UCL run to the final.

Thing is when you think of Carlos Tevez you think of him at Manchester City, not United
