I don't understend all of them .....only some of them.... just like I remember some of the Christian psalms ..not all of them. Psalm number 91.... Nusrat would sing it. Majesty and mystery of the Almighty can be expressed from different angles...so to speak. I am a christian mystic.....and i love listening to master Nusrat.

Back in 1996 in Dubai, while working on the Sheikh Zayed Road project, a senior PM from the UK asked me about Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He told me, Nusrat Fateh’s voice was magical. The PM was white, and for him to appreciate Ustaad Nusrat was nice. talent has no colour, race or religion. Hats off to his talent. There won’t be another one like him.

I've listened to this song tens of hundreds of times and still feels like I'm listening to it for the first time. This is the best song of NFAK, such a masterpiece. Everything about it. One small detail I want to point out is how NFAK stops instantaneously at 14:54 and his brother Farrukh Sahab continues singing from where NFAK left off without missing a beat. The timing, there's not a single nanosecond of gap between the stopping and singing. Just perfect. Perfection at its finest. This song also portrays the entire lifestory of someone, perhaps the poet Fana Bulandshahri's life himself. From the first meet, then getting close to the beloved, then enjoying life with that special person, and at last, death. Such a marvelous piece of poetry and an elegant rendition by Shahenshah e Qawwali. I love this. Maybe one day I will work on an English translation for this particular song.

Ae Fana shukar hai aaj baad-e-fana, us ne rakhli mere pyaar ki aabroo O Fana, today I am grateful that after my demise, she has maintained the honour of my love (Fana can be the author's name and also mean 'annihilation') 14.
