In our new era of KZbin shorts, I'm wondering if the average human attention span has radically decreased. You created a remarkably concise and accurate summary of Hitler's life, all within the space of just 18 minutes. You'll reach people who wouldn't have the patience to sit though a 1 to 2 hour long form biography of Hitler.

We are in the "tik-tok" generation of 3min videos, but to be fair, it is very heavy going, so I can see why most wouldn't want to watch 2 hours of it. Plus, these are introductory videos so there is a lot of things we didn't have time to dive deeper into.

According to Hitler when he was in vienna he worked on building sites and that is where he developed a hatred for communism as the unions were heavily involved in recruiting for the communist cause on building sites.

But why did 5he Germans follow him Why did the russians tallow stalon or Italians Musolini. Well it has to do whit ww1 and the colla0se of the entire European economic system. As for antisemitism...it existed all over Europe...but was essentially brutal in Germany where a special kind of antisemitism erupted.Racial antisemitism. Up until that point most antisemitism was religious or conspiracy theories
@wendyHew

Yes I think that many people wanted someone to lead them out of their situation, the French had put unessecary pressure on Germany after ww1 determined to destroy them and with the catalyst of the financial crash Hitler was able to step in at the right time.Before invading poland many people felt that Germany was just relcaiming their territory. Importantly Russia was never punished for invading poland at the same time and all these years later they have begun invading and annexing their neighbouring countries just like their enemy hitler had done all those years before.

One of the most important points I stress with my students is the fact no one can claim ignorance of what he wanted to do. Over and over again in words and actions he was a clear threat and yet people choose to appease him.
@RenaissanceMan29
@RenaissanceMan29 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's entirely accurate, because if one was to read books like "The Eternal Jew", they might know the Nazis were anti-Semitic, but they might not be aware of the death camps etc. due to media censorship, epistemologically speaking. And if you didn't read books and media lies, where does that leave all those people? And as we know from psychological studies on conformity and obedience, it comes as no surprise that people went along with what had happened.
@HistoryfortheAges
@HistoryfortheAges 2 жыл бұрын
@@RenaissanceMan29 I do understand what you are saying about how people conform. I have a short lecture on my channel about why the holocaust happened and I discuss the Milgram experiment. But at the same time I also have a video from a 106 year old WWII vet who openly said people must have known what was going on. Also, it was not just the death camps. Remember before WWII ever started you had Nuremberg laws and Kristallnacht. You are 100% correct in the idea that there was media censorship, but Hitler's motives I think were very clear to anyone who wanted to open their eyes and see them at the time. Many folks before WWII ever started warned about Hitler, they were just not the ones in power.

@@HistoryfortheAges Yeah, it is one of those subjects isn't it, I think we have good arguments on many sides. I'm quite realist in my outlook, so you can see why I would think that way - I'm always suspicious of state actors. What cemented my thinking was that the Tiananmen Square incidents, where my former lecturer had taught a class of Chinese students, and only one of around 15 people believed that what had happened was true, and in fact, they had no clue about the event, so, I'm just applying this, perhaps loosely, to Nazi Germany, however, I had read an article on this, hence, my further conviction. Interesting topic nontheless.
