If I've said it once... I've probably only said it once then, but: If you want to hear Chris Barrie not just do an impression of Kryten but also Lister and Cat the may I suggest the audiobook for the first Red Dwarf novel, 'Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers'.

Apparently, this episode was written to spite Craig Charles, Chris Barrie and Danny John-Jules for all the times they use to make fun of Robert Llewelyn at how long it would take him to get into costume and when he would remark at how uncomfortable it was.
@OverworkedITGuyКүн бұрын
In all the interviews and convention panels, the cast always talk about this episode making them realize the hell Robert has had to deal with all these decades. They never realized how hard it is to be in the Kryten costume and makeup until after doing this episode.

It's always great to end on a Lister playing the guitar badly joke. My favourite was when they got Lister and the psiren impersonating him to both play the guitar at the same time and upon them shooting the psiren Lister asked how they knew it wasn't him to which cat responded "because that dude could play!" ha ha classic red dwarf. Loved the boys from the dwarf moment also, that will always get a cheer from me

This episode was all spawned from the production of series X where Craig and Danny found some spare Kryten masks, used make up to match their skin colours and ran into the production office and showed Doug! 😂 I love the scene where Lister sums up Kryten perfectly. "You're all those things because you chose to be, not because we made you." Which is very true, while Rimmer didn't mind making Kryten do his duties, but Lister in the early Red Dwarf episodes actually didn't want Kryten being a slave. I guess in the end, Lister realised it was what Kryten wanted, so he stopped the protests.

Apparently it was Craig Charles idea to call them the M.I.L.F's Doug Naylor and his son (a producer) loved it but couldn't think of what the I could stand for. So when they told Craig Charles they couldn't use his idea he then suggested 'Intergalactic' and I think they both kicked themselves 😅

That's why there's no establishing shots for the fight transition - all the design work had MLF.

Up until this point, the rest of the cast had joked around a lot with Robert Llewellyn about his discomfort in the Kryten costume, convinced it couldn't be as bad as he made it out to be. After going through the same experience for this episode, they all promised him they would NEVER make light of it again.
@theorigionalvealieКүн бұрын
I was lucky enough to get studio audience ticket for this one, an experience I'll never forget! The warm up act (Ian Bouldsworth - who appears in episode 5) made a joke about being freaked out by all of the actors in rubber masks. So later on between scenes all of the actors in the masks (led by Kryten) snook up behind him and scared him while he was talking to the audience.

I was in the audience for this one as well! Not the best episode of Red Dwarf but still a fantastic experience!

@@line_noise How much was recorded live for this one? I've read it was less than usual?
@line_noiseСағат бұрын
@@JackRascal It was a while ago so I'm struggling to remember. I think all the parts where the characters are out of makeup was pre-recorded (or vice versa). Obviously they couldn't switch back and forth quickly. Definitely the scenes with all the other mechanoids were shot live.

This episode demonstrates how good Robert Llewelyn is at working with the makeup. If you watch the other regulars you see them trying to use their facial muscles and contorting the prosthetics in a very noticable way.

Good to see Kat's Cat teeth! A fun episode. Great to see Chris Barrie get a chance to impersonate Kryten. Chris was famously the voice of Ronald Reagan on the UK satire show Spitting Image back in the 80s. He is a really talented impressionist. Very enjoyable reaction, Gals! Thank you.

Now you're near the end of the small rough one. May I suggest you check out another UK Sci Fi show called: the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. I watched it as a kid it's from the 70s, I think. It's based on the book by Douglas Adams. It's very quirky and funny.

Baby, Don't Be Ovulating Tonight would be a cover version if Dave did it. It's mentioned in the first Red Dwarf novel, alongside "Press Your Lumps Against Mine," as two of the popular songs played at one of the bars on Red Dwarf.

Heads up! Incoming information I was watching an episode about 2 weeks ago , and there was a short advertisement/ trailer that featured the usual long panning shot of a space suited figure painting the name on the front of the big red one but something seemed off about the image. It took me a few seconds to realise what I was looking at, then I realised that they have recreated the opening scene using the animated version of Lego. I don’t have any other information about this but I thought you two needed to know. Was it just a vanity project or is there an animated movie in production. Who knows?

I don't know whether it's the darker nights or what, but I keep falling asleep on Wednesdays these past few weeks and having to catch up on Thursdays. It's embarrassing, because you usually upload by 8pm UK time, so it's not like it's late. Anyway, I wasn't too keen on this one, but it seemed okay here. One big thing was that the big guest star in the show was James Buckley, who was famous at the time from The Inbetweeners. (I'm not sure if you'd enjoy that show or not, I might enjoy you reacting to it either way.) In the end he didn't really have a lot to do. Not quite sure why Cat's android body had to be black, and as good as Chris Barrie is at taking on other personas, it does, as you point out, flag up the limitations with Craig Charles, bless him. (And all the "Lister can't play guitar" gags, which are done to death by this point, looks daft when it followed last week's where he was competent.) Episodes 4-6 of this season are all fine/good (IMO), but next week is the one fans regard as the worst episode ever made. Even worse than season 8. can't wait to see you react to it.
