What happened to the infamous 'Blood Flag', a Nazi relic kept in the Braun House in Munich. Was it destroyed by Allied bombing, looted by locals, taken as a souvenir by US troops? Discover the full story here.

That must be why the communist were shooting machine guns killing people in the streets of Germany and why they were trying to take over the govt. before Hitler. Yep the commies were drunk. The commies who tried to take over Hungary in 1919 were drunk also and so were the bolsheviks who took over Russia they were all drunk.

I would surmise that it was identified in the decades since the war as this war relic by verifiable means, and then discreetly sold to a wealthy collector. The former owner (or relatives) then never reported the sale income to the IRS. That secret disposition would explain why rumors of it have never surfaced since being brought to the US in the late 1940s. It may surface someday; these kind of things pop up without warning every so often. A historic and infamous relic like this should be conserved and given a place in a museum. There's one in Washington, DC on 14th St NW that would love to have it.

My great grandfathers were in ww2 infantry. one in pacific and one in europe. On my moms side the one in Europe he brought home some stuff he got out of germany including a nazi flag we still have it today, its crazy when you hold it to know it was made by the actually nazis themselves and whoever made it never would of imagined it would of ened up in TN in the united states in the basement of the great grandson of an American soldier who would be commenting about it in 2019 on youtube.

Mark, I believe you have missed a fifth scenario. Major Grimlicher (forgive the spelling) was, as you point out, the custodian of the 'blood flag' and as such its protector. As you say, if the flag had been removed from Munich, he would have most likely gone with it, yet he was captured in Munich, indicating the 'blood flag' never left that city. I would suggest it is a good possibility that as the flags protector, the Major would have burned or otherwise destroyed the 'blood flag' himself prior to capture rather than allowing it to fall into enemy hands. There are many examples of this kind of action in military history, such as the 4th Marines burning their colors just before the fall of Corregidor at the beginning of the U.S. involvement in the war. In my humble opinion, I think this is the most likely scenario.

When the American troop ships came into New York harbor, after the war, stevadors on the docks, knowing that GI's were bringing back war souvenirs, ransacked and stole GI's dufflebags and officer's footlockers. It happened to my dad.

Mark Felton does anyone know the exact dimensions and conditions of the Blutfahne? My Grandpa had one in his desk for 50 years when he passed away I got it, it did have what looked like blood stains on it. I have compared it to photos and it's size does not seem to quite match. Either way it's locked up in a bank, great video!

I mean, they could also have destroyed it, considering how much they loved the old tradition. Letting your crown standard fall into enemy hands is the greatest shame, which is why here in Denmark the only respectful way to destroy the flag is to burn it, it stems from back in the old days where you did actually have banner carriers on the battlefield.

With so many WWII vets dying in the U.S., and many of the widows, and other heirs not understanding the significance of such "war booty", it may get sold to a collector, or more likely destroyed, or thrown in the trash.

I would bet on "Scenario 4" also. Some American G.I. nabbed it at war's end, didn't realize what it actually was, and it's probably still floating around someplace in America today.

The looting solder's mother no-doubt found the flag, along with her son's comic book and baseball card collection (which would be worth over $1 million today), and she threw them away, like millions of other mothers back in the day. That's what happened to MY father's comic books, probably in the early 50s. BTW, he took part in the Korean conflict.

I also agree with sceenario #4; The blutfahne is probably among Grandpappy's forgotten war memoriablia in some American family's attic, if it still still survives at all. And would no doubt make that family wealthy, if they knew what it was. And if its provenance could be eatablished . . .?

it's still unlikely it survived even if it somehow made it to America with a plucky G.I., as anyone born between 44' and the late 90's would have thoroughly played soldier with it, believing it to be just another relic from the war. my father supposedly had a Japanese battle flag, helmets and a sword- the sword being the only survivor of his childhood, and barely survived mine to be discovered as an extremely rare Japanese navy Kai-Gunto, or short Navy katana. I'm only 24. my father always thought it was made by some poor smithy after the war for occupying troops, to make some money to live on. he was quite surprised when I did extensive research on it, to discover it's true origin.

I can't say that I totally agree with your reasoning Mr Felton. If the Blutfahne was the most sacred relic of the Reich it could have been spirited away by itself and the other memorabilia left. Chris Carter the creator of "The X-files" had the Blutfahne as a plot device in his other paranormal series "Millennium'. The SS organization ODESSA had it in their secret hideout in Argentina.

It could well have been looted for its silver fittings. Silver has value and it`s only a matter of braking the pole in a few places. Then grab the fitting and leave the flag and rest of the pole behind. Is anybody really going to be able to pick it out without it`s silver fittings? Laying on the floor of a looted building with other flags, and poles smashed for their fittings?
