I felt sorry for Naomi when I kept seeing her down the whole water, wondering how many takes it took. She killed it! Her raw emotion and facial expressions twisting with so many camera close-ups was right down the alley with this movie being more of a character study.

@@laurarules3642 Actors do some crazy sh!t though that could be a detriment to their health; have you seen Christian Bale in The Mechanist?
@laurarules3642Ай бұрын
@@chinothepony Yeah I saw that movie and the transformation. He also did it again for rescue dawn (think it was called) and also The actor that played the Joker. I dunno i'm kinda dubious did they both really lose that amount of weight or was some camera trickery involved . I mean look how they were able to make the actor that plays captain america look tiny and scrawny and then he was jacked later .. If they genuinely lost all that weight I'm sure they had medical professionals monitoring them . If its genuine then its astounding how Bale went from being so thin to absolutely ripped for some of his other roles. Astounding what the human body is capable of ... Theres some dutch dude here on youtube who was a bodybuilder and he let himself get obese so he could document him losing the weight the weight and getting shredded again just to prove to anybody it could be done . Sorry for the tangent lol
@chinotheponyАй бұрын
@@laurarules3642 I love the tangent! I love getting educated by others (if that comes off sarcastic, it wasn't meant to be). I do believe what Bale did in that particular movie was real. And I do think only certain actors have been able to do those crazy kind of transformations with their bodies of either going real thin, or like you mentioned, stacking on the weight then losing it. Personally, I was 100 lbs. heavier about three years ago. I changed my lifestyle, but I'm not without my stretch marks and a little loose skin. But I couldn't deal with the psychological hit of going back up and then down again for any reason. The Mechanist was in 2004, and I think it was harder then to do screen trickery than it is now.

No it doesn't. In most movies, like for example in this one, ethnicity of cast is completely irrelevant. In some movies it may be relevant, and in if "representation" is forced it just takes you out of the movie.

How do you know it was 700k
@StevenC322 ай бұрын
@ I did some research, and that is what was reported. That does not mean that she won’t get part of the gross, but her base salary was for 700k, these type of movies are not considered big operational budget films, so they limit the actors base salary to stay on budget, but sometimes they work a deal with the actors to give them a percentage of the gross if the film does better than expected at the box office.

@@StevenC32I mean, you can't really look at this from the only angle that you are perceiving it from. The other angle is that the director is a "beginner", a literal first-time director, in the filming industry, and so, even though Smile was very successful, I assume he would have wanted to save a big budget to make Smile 2 look way better and more professional than his own status, to surpass himself because people typically equate a person's level of status to their outcome, and Smile 2 (as the outcome) was not the case. Which worked and made Smile 2 even more uniquely perfected and creative than Smile
