The talk about optimizing for weird stuff in D&D reminds me of a build I accidentally walked myself into. Hadn't thought of it until I put the character on paper but, every movement option except burrowing speed by level 6. I was all, "How are you a thing?"

Bob the Bibarel, along with A'tuin the Torterra, were the rocks upon which my Gen-4 team was built. Bibarel have a ridiculously broad set of moves they can learn, and quite good base stats to back them up with.

I just tried this build, and oh boy thanks for reminding me Firefly exists: highest score ever for me (2.3M but Im not a player of your caliber) I do believe however that you guys stopped short of greatness: shaving off some of the unneeded wild mods (1 rampage is the only necessary one, the others are basically luxury) and adding Emergency Systems and Tempest made me feel soooo much safer, and the bursting shield adds some burn damage to the build too.

Bibarel does actually have two of the best abilities in the game, simple and moody. Its at the point that im pretty sure moody bidoof was banned from ubers because it would cheese out games. There are a handful of abilities that are so dammed good that they are banned, instead of the Pokémon that use them as some people will run the pre-evolutions just to get that power (like diglett for arena trap)

My take on optimizing in D&D-well, not D&D specifically, because I hate the way they design things-is that I want to put together a build that makes sense for my character and that will be fun, or at least helpful, for the whole party. Most of the time my characters are meant to be competent and there's going to be a lot of combat that I'll need to pull my weight in, which means that a build that matches my role-playing will also be one that is well optimized for combat. With that said, I will refluff abilities to Hades and back.

Build idea (mostly a meme): a build mostly based off of Firefly (the hsr one). No clue how that would work, but I kinda wanna see it. I'm thinking probably halo shield, firefly body, and sword weapon, mostly focused around corrosion and deflagration

I don't like modern pokemon games either (the only one that I sorta almost liked was legends arceus because it tried something new + nostalgia), but I do think as a developer that cutting the national dex was both the right call and inevitable. Like... the fact that up until that point, every game both maintained the entire roster and allowed you to transfer pokemon up from previous games all the way back to gen 3 is insane. That's somthing no other game franchise does, and they kept it up across 3 different consoles and going from 2D sprites to 3D models. With each game it probably got more expensive and limiting to keep up, so they had to stop sooner or later.
