HK Airport. Currency exchange & $15 Sim Card- June 2023

Short vacation to HK & China. Data Sim was good for both HK & China. I found the HK currency exchange rate to be better than other places but RMB was not so, I waited until I arrived in China. Next time I will compare rates with my local bank in the US. FYI, there is pros and cons but I find Shenzhen to be more modern & economical than HK.

Do you get a better exchange rate at the HK airport compared to exchanging in the US before traveling there?

Depends perhaps on which money changers in the US you are talking about (they are relatively few to begin with which should not surprise you if the rate is far off from HK$7.8 to US$1). However in any case, I'd exchange only enough money in the city centre just to pay for public transport - keep in mind you can use credit cards to pay for Airport Express and bus trips (via contactless VISA or Mastercard). Chungking Mansion at Tsim Sha Tsui is where to go to exchange money for the best rates.
