Growing up playing Metal Gear Solid inspired me to own these pistols as an adult. Thanks to Kojima, I am now an HK fanboy! They are awesome pistols, you should definitely get one. The USP runs factory new for about $950ish, HK45 for about $750ish, and Mark 23 (Snake's gun) is about $1700-$2000 price range depending on the dealer. Get one and you'll know what I mean. @johnyoungs74532 жыл бұрын
Where you really need to understand the difference between the less-expensive HK .45's and the Mk 23, is to understand firstly, that the guns were built for different purposes. The "USP .45's" were built specifically for civilian and law enforcement scenarios and environments. The Mk 23 was built for "special operators" within the US SOCOM community to take an enormous amount of physical punishment and come out unscathed, or at least, nearly so. If you take any HK .45 and field-strip it - removing the complete upper receiver (the slide, the barrel, & the recoil spring assembly) from the frame - then do the same for the Mk 23. After you've field-stripped both guns, place their lower receivers side-by-side, and then take a GOOD look downward at the "innards" of both guns. This is how you'll actually be able to see for yourself WHY the old argument of "Well, the Mk 23 is just another HK .45, only with a longer barrel and slide...!" is such bullshit..!! Yeah.... The first thing you'll notice, relative to the Mk 23, is that ALL the parts you're looking at are bigger, thicker, "beefier", and stouter - in some cases, up to 50% - or more, compared to any of the other Hk .45's. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/faC6k355mrxlZ9E). Secondly, a few of you guys who happen to own both the HK .45 as well as the Mk 23 will realize that the HK .45 series have to be shot quite a bit before they start to look like they're losing their finishes - the slide, the outside of the barrel, etc. Then, you'll realize that after only a relatively few rounds have been put through your Mk 23, it almost looks like it's been through WWIII...! Why do you suppose that is..?? Because the Mk 23, as it comes down the assembly line, is not merely a "parts" gun, wherein the various parts of the gun, similar to the Hk .45, are simply installed and the gun continues down the assembly line to the next person or station. The HK Mk 23 is literally "hand-fitted" to much closer tolerances. Ever wonder why the barrel of a Mk 23 is so much harder to remove from the slide when field-stripping it for cleaning, etc, when compared to the HK .45 series...? Tighter tolerances is the reason. The Mk 23 is twice as expensive as the HK .45 series of pistols - not because it's "a cool range toy" or, "We do that because we can", and all of the other bullshit lines you'll get from amateur "reviewers" who know little or nothing about what they're talking about. It's more expensive because it's built tougher and stouter. It's literally designed to go through hell & back and keep its owner alive in the process. It was designed with a "This gun cannot fail - period!!" attitude. There are people who cannot afford to get a Mk 23, and, as the old cliché suggests: "Misery loves company" - i.e., they can't get a Mk 23 so they'll bash the hell out of it and try to make everyone else "out there" think that the Mk 23 is just an "over-bloated, unnecessarily expensive piece of s _ _ t", never giving a second thought to what really goes into the making of that gun..! Now, am I "bashing" the Hk .45 series of guns...? Not at all. They're essentially fine guns in their own right, but you must first understand, as I've said before, what purpose these guns were originally, specifically, designed for. The average (and this has been well-documented, BTW...) civilian gun owner will shoot a particular gun roughly 250-300 times in the length of time he or she has it. Some will shoot it a lot more, and some will never put a single round through it - they'll put it in a safe or drawer at home and never shoot it. Gun manufacturers know this, and will design & build guns accordingly. Does HK take "shortcuts" with their standard USP .45's..? No, I don't at all believe they do. However, the guns would certainly not stand up to the complete torture tests that the Mk 23 went through decades ago, back when it was in its testing phases. Many of the Mk 23's parts were intentionally "overbuilt" - specifically, so the gun would be sure to get it's owner back out alive and out of a "sticky" situation, assuming the operator didn't first run out of ammo, of course. The bottom line..? The Mk 23, subject to the vagaries of commerce, will always be more expensive than the other HK .45's. It was built to last and last. More so than any other handgun in existence, regardless of the country it came from, or the manufacturer that designed and built it. It is "the" most reliable and dependable handgun on the market - new or used. As long as it gets cleaned occasionally, it will never let you down, in my opinion, and I stand by it...!! And by the way, I own three (3) of these. If you think I'm putting you on, give me your email address and I'll send you a photo of all three together - with me in the background. One to carry, one in my safe as a backup, and one, well, I guess to put it simply: because I really love these guns..!! :-)

If you don't want the gun's "lock block" (located at the bottom, inside rear portion of the grip) installed in your Mk 23, you can buy a replacement "blank" or "solid" polymer block from HK Parts Store for around $10 or $12 dollars. The "Euro" version of this gun doesn't come with that lock block and the blank version is already installed. Also, "Tornado Technologies" of Beaverton, Oregon sells what I would consider a superior thread-protector cap for the end of your gun's muzzle. It protects the muzzle crown and, inside the forward end of the cap, there's a soft, latex rubber O-ring which will keep the cap on your barrel's muzzle while firing & keep it from loosening & unscrewing while firing the gun.

I'm in the market for a 45 and am considering either the USP or the HK45T (seems like they have similar street prices). Question: a peeve of mine is brass being thrown back at me. It looks in the video like the USP sends brass at a 90 degree angle from the shooter so not back at you . the HK 45 looks like it throws brass back at you. Is this correct or just the camera angle? The hk45 is appealing so wondering if it throws brass back at you. Thank you
@Zero-qz5zr4 жыл бұрын
Windy Run hi there, honestly you can’t go wrong with either. As far as the brass ejection goes, it’s just the camera angle. The hk45 will not eject brass back at your face. The hk usp will run roughly about $850-950. Th hk45 will be about 7-850$. Prices varies from dealer to dealer. The tactical models, I know that the uspt’s run for about 1k -1.1k$

@@89thaharmaiiioptreshenanig3 Only if the ejector is adjusted and shaped properly. I've never had one thrown back in my face & I own half a dozen 1911's, incl. a customized Para-ordnance P-14, and they all eject off to the side. It sounds like it can either be an ejector issue or lack of a tuned extractor, or possibly both. A lot of gunsmiths really don't seem to understand the proper relationship between the those two parts. Also, your ejection port should be shaped to extract the shell casing properly without "pinching" the empty casing on ejection from the port. That's another issue that often needs to be addressed with custom-built 1911's. Out of the box HK .45's are seldom a problem. Also, with 1911's, you must realize that original, stock, out of the box, 1911 ejectors and extractor designs were based on shooting round-nose, "ball" ammunition. HK .45's are designed specifically to efficiently eject hollow point casings - their extractors & ejectors are designed and shaped differently than the equivalent 1911 parts, for strong ejection from the gun's ejection port.
