I was in Sainsbury’s today and went to what I term as the mens’ crèche (magazine aisle). After flipping through the Airfix magazine, I noticed Aeroplane magazine which had the title of Avro Heavies and showed the nose section of a Shackleton. I looked through it and found the section on the titled Avro Heavies. It looked interesting but the most interesting part was the free poster of all of the liveries that the BBMH Lancaster has been painted in. It’s a sizeable poster which is (obviously) folded and stapled into the middle of the magazine.

The cockpit masks look excellent and will be fascinating to see how they work in practice. Not so sure about the insignia masks though. Logic, and the general rules of painting, suggest the roundels should be painted red then the blue dropped on top, especially as red paint is a nightmare to get to cover.

Red Oxide primer, or if you look at the railroad colours, "boxcar" red (US) is a decent match for the brick red RAF markings. Coverage is much nicer than straight red. But I agree, Spray the red first!

Ian Maw oh, so I was correct then. Paint the red first, but would you paint it red with the blue mask in place?

@@NigelsModellingBench , I used the Primer on my last Beaufighter. I sprayed the red directly onto the model, then masked off the red dots and squadron codes. Then the blue, and masked that off. The red primer I purchased from the local hardware store, but it matches the red Tamiya uses for ww2 british codes and letters.

Try the 1/24 Mosquito's roundels if you want to see large decals! They went down like paint.
