My question is, what's the difference between HIS, PACS, RIS and HL7? Do these entities come under HL7 or what? I'm having a difficult time differentiating between these things. As per my understanding, HIS, PACS, RIS, EMR, They all represent the departments/parts/systems of a hospital separated by their different type of functionalities and nature of data to store. And, each system sends data to other system based on the message types of HL7 (i.e., ADT, ORM, ORU etc.) SO HL7 is to communicate data. And what type of data? for different type of data comes different type of messages under HL7 specification. Please let me know if I understood it correctly or not? Thanks in advance!

Hello, Yes your understanding is correct. If you ever have trouble understanding in the future remember what these acronyms stand for: HIS - Hospital Information System RIS - Radiology Information System EMR - Electronic Medical Records HL7 - Health Level 7 PACS - Picture Archiving Communications System

That was some good content. Please can you tell me how to get patient details with id using HL7 ? Do we need to create HL7 message for that ?

I think that would be an ADT message.

Please let me know the difference between inbound and outbound message with examples
@IVI4V3R1CK2 жыл бұрын
HL7's source is always the HIS/RIS. So any messages from downstream applications such as PACS, or your dictation software, will be ORU. This would be things like image availability links, dictation reports, SRs, etc. These would be sending to the HIS/RIS, so these downstream apps are sending inbound messages. Any messages that the HIS/RIS is sending to out will be ORM. This will contain details like order info, study notes, scheduled exam, etc. This is different than an ADT, which is patient registration--so this will contain info like patient arrival status, as well as first time registration. These would both be considered outbound messaging. Each system has its own HL7 engine, with the message being the standard. There's usually some form of error detection, like if a patient is registered under one name, and then chart corrected to the correct name, there's usually not an ADT message for that update. So the downstream application is using the original ORM to populate the patient details, and will send the incorrect name within the ORU. Error detection on the HIS/RIS will stop it from processing because the names don't match. You will typically need to correct the downstream application to make sure the data matches the HIS/RIS, because it's your source of truth. Comment back if you need some further detail. I know it's necroposting, so if you've already learned all this I don't mean any offense.

Thanks, I do appreciate the feedback! One of the great things about feedback is that a person can take the feedback in and use it to improve on future videos. So instead, what I can do (because this video is out) is take your feedback and improve when I make future videos. This way in the future, I can look back at my old videos and have documented proof of just how far I've come.

I'm sorry, it's great that you took the time and effort to create this video, but you do not explain yourself clearly, you backtrack a lot, you hesitate all the time and you do not seem to have prepared the content of the presentation in advance. This makes the video confusing and distracting. If you update a more prepared, confident presentation, you will help a lot more people.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, it's one of my first videos ever done, but I could have prepared better for the content. Let me know if the following HL7 tutorial is any better: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mX2yZqWer5Z2h5o.

can anyone told me the difference between LIS and HL7 :(
@HealthcareITSolutions4 жыл бұрын
The difference is LIS (Laboratory Information System) is a laboratory system that records, manages, and stores data for clinical laboratories. While HL7 (Health Level 7) is a standard form of communication for transferring electronic health information between healthcare applications.

Is the HIS and EMR interchangeable ?
@HealthcareITSolutions5 жыл бұрын
Not really. HIS stands for Hospital Information System, and EMR stands for Electronic medical records. HIS manages the entire workflow of a patient when they enter the hospital from beginning to end. While EMR's are systems that contain all of the medical history of a patient. So they are similar, but they perform different functions.

Have you done or looked into training and certs from www.otechimg.com/ ? I want to attend the training but the cost involved is pretty high priced. I don't mind paying but wanted to see if you had anyone do it before. Thanks again for the info!
@HealthcareITSolutions5 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew, I've looked it before just to see what the prices were, and I agree that the prices are pretty high. I haven't attended this training though. I've only attended vendor led training through the companies I've worked for, which were paid for by the companies.
