Every trombone players' heart (including my own) broke when you gave one of the most famous trombone solos ever to the euphoniums and horns.

+Tristan Hughes Whereas the euphoniums, who most concert band arrangers assume are composed entirely of last-chair trumpets switched by their directors and therefore treat as tuba doubles, if that, are quite happy to actually get something to feature us.

+ Bone-Tone Lord As a euphie, I gotta disagree partially. It really depends on the level of the music being played, because something for a younger band is going to have more of that shitty tuba/euph doubling than in higher level stuff, where there is more soloistic material and euphs are treated more as a member of the horns or tenor sax/bassoon pairings than doubling the bass line.

Interesting arrangement, I usually like Jay Bocook quite a lot; but this sounds too much like a pop version of an all-time classic. Mind you this allows just about any wind orchestra to play this crowd pleaser, whereas the original is a tour-de-force for all instrumentists.

If you want an arrangement with the trombone solo (and all the others this one doesn’t have) then check out the Hal Leonard Europe concert band version, I think this arrangement was made to be more manageable for younger bands but still be a challenge for them skill wise

@albiesnyder412
@albiesnyder412 5 жыл бұрын
@@xHypnoticTone I believe he's referring to the fact that the snare drum plays the same rhythm for 4 minutes straight, gradually crescendoing. That being said in the original it's the same part but for 15 minutes straight. The difficulty comes from playing consistently, having the same stick height and playing in the correct place on the drum, as well as controlling the very low dynamics at the beginning and very gradual increase in volume (not to mention, everyone can always hear you) makes for a deceptively difficult part, arguably the most distinctive part about this piece.

Horrible arrangement. Doesn't take into consideration the instruments that actually have the main solos (Trombone, Bassoon) and just throws it to the saxophones. Very disappointing.

No... you're missing the damn point. Bolero is a study of orchestration, you've mangled the beauty original piece. It's for orchestra, not concert band. As a result many of the orchestral variations were removed due to balance and the piece fails to do what it was written to do. How pathetic.
