That his son understood, even from a young age, what that sacrifice meant. And for him to carry that memory into adulthood, and then to go to the lengths to acquire that same car---the man must have been one hell of a father to inspire that much love from his son. It speaks to the man that he was and the man that he raised.
@grtlover2 жыл бұрын
That was inspiring for me to read. As a father of two sons, I sacrificed as much as I could so they could have a better life growing up than I did. They are in their 30's now, but the sacrifice apples fell far from the tree. Unfortunately for me. Thanks for your comment.

I lost my dad last June, at only 67 years old. I actually got him (back) into cars when I was 13 or so, he helped me buy my first car at 15 and always supported my passion and dreams of racing. Thanks to his encouragement I've raced at multiple tracks and met so many great people in the industry. I always wished I could have done something like this with his old Mercury Comet. Thanks Dad! I'm not the type to get attached to objects, but histories like this still make me emotional. You see, 20 years ago this man sold the vehicle he used to visit friends, go to work, buy groceries and so on, just to make sure that he and his family would have food on the table. He didn't know how long would the money earned last; He didn't know if they had a future after the money was spent. To have his son buying back THIS specific car after so much time has passed is not only a relief beyond imagination (in the sense that the difficult times are truly over), but also a priceless sign of appreciation and sympathy.

Absolutely One of the BEST Videos I’ve seen in a LONG while. What Fantastic Grown Sons he has. My Husband’s Late Father had a cherry red Chevy S-10 as a second car that he cherished. He’d always wanted a truck didn’t get it until his 70)s. . It was pristine! He left it to our oldest son. Whom washed that truck took care of it before he was legally allowed to drive it. He’d sit in it listen to music in the driveway, Work under the hood. He was so excited when he could actually drive it on the road and not a relatives Farm Pasture. He is 22 now, still has it but has another car to put miles on for work. I cannot wait to show him this video. He has a hard crush when it comes to CHEVY! 👍🇺🇸👍

Beautiful story and that Impala is a beautiful piece of Chevy history. The Father is one happy Chevy guy thanks to his family. I can relate although in my case, my Chevy has never been sold. I am the proud owner (over 52 years) of a rare 71 Chevelle Malibu 400 ragtop (402ciBB, WR4 speed, 3.31 12 bolt posi rear, 32K miles). My son Chris, age 50, first ride home from the hospital when born was in the back seat of this car with my wife of now 56 years. My son is part owner of it today. And he has one too. A 72 Chevelle pro street hardtop. I've been offered a lot of money for my car but I would never sell 'a member of the family'. We'll keep our Chevys forever !

Favorite part: "They changed the mufflers..." LOL, guy immediately knew the exhaust note difference 20 years later. That's a gear head. :)

There was an explanation for this... The people filming had did it under the guise of documenting how grandparents interact with their grandchildren. He was mic'ed up, yes. But he had no idea the reason was the car.

this is why old American iron rules, you just don't get the same reaction with giving a a teen in high school a Honda civic. Sure there is excitement an screams, but no deep passion and connection. 30 yrs later if you get the Honda back, it wont be like this, Hell I doubt the car is around that long. These are timeless works of art
@bmancodgta410 жыл бұрын
Very true, but a modern american car wouldn't necessarily have the same effect. This was just a golden era for american cars. They will never have the character they used to, there's too many regulations in the way.

if in 30-40 years i would resee my 2000 impreza i think i would cry XD, sold it cause motor blew twice but it someone kept the part and change the mechanic i would buy it again for sure.

xArcangel32x you would be able to see the add on body parts and plastic, maybe the aluminum rear wing too if the weather hasn't disintegrated it, as thin as the metal is... I doubt it. I own an old 68 American iron car and the side of car is straight because they used better quality thicker sheet metal my 2002 foreign car looks so bad down the side from all the door dings, even the rust is thicker on my 68. It will out last todays cars easy. granted no one gave a shit about weight and mpg back then. IMO today's cars seem cold, cad computer and what not, where back then, I think it was hands on and they put a soul and personality into the designs
@xArcangel32x10 жыл бұрын
true that, it wouldn't be the original and prob wouldn't still be alive in 25 years XD! I can agree they don't build em like they used too, plus im in canada, Qc, so the snow will rust it even more :P.

Great story. I had the 1967 version of this fastback SS396, 4 speed car. 325 hp 396. 10.25:1 cr. Nodular iron crank. 3:31 12 bolt posi rear. Painted it white pearl. Had red interior. Loved that thing. Took it to the strip once and got low 14's in the quarter.

I would give anything to track down my Dad's Pontiac GTO. He loved that car like it was his baby. He still had it when my older sister was born, but when I was born in 1973, he sold it and bought a van. So I don't have any memories of the car, but even as a kid, I could tell by the way he talked about that car how much he loved it. It would be so awesome to be able to give it back to him.
