HM160: EFE J94 in OO gauge

EFE Rail has relaunched the Hunslet 'J94' 0-6-0ST for 'OO' gauge as part of the new Bachmann brand. Watch our video of the first release in action here with DCC sound installed.

A lot of money considering I bought a new Hornby S15 DCC fitted for £128 less than four months ago. I really don't understand some of these pricing strategies, another prime example is the Bachmann Western Pullman sold as a DCC trainset with a circle of track and a controller for nearly £1000, you would think anyone shelling out that sort of money would already have a layout up and running making the track and controller superfluous.

I still can't quite believe how you guys are so happy to promote what I presume are competitive brands to Hornby, but I am very happy that you do. And I am soooooo envious of what is available in OO gauge. What some comments seem to miss is that, yes, it might seem expensive to you in the UK, but down here in Oz it seems a very reasonable price, plus this is probably the only sound-equipped loco I have ever seen where the sound actually seems synchronised to the motion of the wheels :-)

When I were a kid in the 70's , bye 'ek, a tank engine cost about 2 or 3 quid. 100 quid (a small fortune back then) was the cost of O gauge engines. For 150 quid I'd want tons of steam, and smoke coming from the chimney (e-cigarette technology)!

Great model but I think Bachmann do have their prices set pretty high compared to the equivalent high detail Hornby model. I have also noticed they up lifted the price of the Heljan Hymek diesel in the EFE range which is still available cheaper from Heljan themselves.

I remember ten years ago when a model this size cost about £30 why are they suddenly so expensive, this costs the same as the tornado model did when it first came out

Not about the model, but for the real engine I don't get how inside cylinders would make it easy to maintain...

The boiler was pitched high enough for someone on the footplate to access the valve gear.

£149 and they didn't fix the chassis to rely on the rods instead of overly convoluted gears? Thanks but no thanks, not enough of an improvement over the DJM version to justify the cost.

I think I heard in the commentary that this model is manufactured by Bachmann who in my opinion are pricing themselves out of the market. I have two Bachmann locomotives and the Standard Class 4 has to be the worst loco I have, lovely model but rarely runs well. As you so rightly say £149 is an absolute joke when you think you can buy a Hornby Pacific for another £20 and for another £100 you can have a Dapol Western with DCC sound fitted ready to go.

Even better check out the Hymek diesel's in the EFE range which are from Heljan. Somehow Bachmann have made them more expensive than the actual manufacturer has.
